They taught that stuff at SAC. Isn't that why we now have National Heros day instead of Columbus Day?

American "History" is so full of fairy tales.

Fact: The Holy Roman Catholic Church started the Atlantic slave trade along with the Spanish Crown....Columbus was under order to bring back Indians (don't forget he thought he was going to India). When he returned to Spain in 1493 the Catholic Church took the natives from Columbus and sold them into slavery.

Many people wrongfully put all the blame of the genocide on Columbus himself...forgeting he was a product of the time and that he was later deposed by the Spanish who had him locked in irons....not because what he did was wrong (they didn't care about that) but because they did not want a foreigner getting so wealthy and having so much power (Admiral and govenor of all he found). He was a scapegoat for the Spanish and the Church.

Yes, he was a terrible administrator (he was off exploring when he should have been watching and controlling the Spanish settlers/conquistadors).

Yes, he technically did not discover the New World because people were already there......but he did do what no one else at that time had done (yes the dreds in Norway did it earlier but he didn't know that for sure).
He crossed the Atlantic ocean (and had to fight every step of the way to do so). Right or wrong his voyages brought Christianity to the New World.

Funny they have Christopher Combusus day in america and he never set foot in america (North or South) He was put in jail because he tried to keep the spanish from finding about South America. He told the spanish that Cuba was the continent of South America. When he sailed to South America (never got off the ship) he had his crew sign a document stating that cuba was south america and anyone who told the monarchs of spain the truth would be docked paid and their life taken away. When he was sailing back to spain he was invited by the portugese monarch to have dinner and told them about south america, they sent to spain a resolution called the line of demarction(i think thats how its spelt) any thing south of it portugal would own. After spain signed it someone told the spanish monarchs what the Gambians(africans) told them in the cape verde islands that a current would take them to a big land mass (south america) In the fleet at that time there were six ships, combusus along with two other ships took the route the africans told them of while the other three took the previous route. Combusus and his crew barely made it to South America alive he admits this in his journal, the meat spoiled in the wooden boxes and the sun was so harsh he and his crew had severve burns fortunately they arrived in South america before their supplies came to an end. HE didnt discover a thing, the africans traveled to the west way before europeans, look at the olmecs in central america, some of the ameridans they encountered had african gold, columbus and his crew took it back to europe to examine and it was the same gold as the gold on the gold coast of africa, Also in the cape verde islands they found a strain of cotton only found in america.

I don't want to discount the crimes of the Catholic Church, but Columbus was not ordered to find Slaves. He had no idea where he was or even if he would find people, never mind Indians....He was supposed to find a shorter route to the Orient. His future trips were to pillage and plunder.

I wouldn't doubt if the Portuguese, the True Explorers of the world brought that cotton to the Cape Verdian Islands. They still speak Portuguese there and every Cape Verdian that I have ever met refers to themselves as Portuguese from Cape Verde.

Columbus discovered nothing and should be tried for genocide, figuratively hanged rather than be celebrated....That's my five cents! End of story.

Pharoah you can't just stop there...
finish the story...
Columbus and the people he represented, "discovered nothing and should be tried for genocide, figuratively hanged rather than be celebrated...."

Now I dare you to say who we represented? Columbus was just a mere "manager;" he had a boss and in fact was later fired and the "corporation" and their "board members" continued to rape and wreek havoc on the new world to this day...Nah be bold...tell us who Columbus represented or leave Columbus alone.

LOL

Exactl right - Columbus was a product of his environment and is being blamed for the actions of an entire country. Columbus was not perfect, did treat indians worngly, but to blame him for everything the Spaniards did in the era is a bit unfair.
