I'd like to visit a friend. I've never been there before. Can anyone tell me what to expect, what steps to take, what I can and cannot wear, can I take anything with me? What time should I go, which days are visiting days, how long is visiting time?

I,ve spoken with one or two person but they haven't been for a while and they gave me conflicting advice.

Please help.

Unfortunately, I do have a reference for this.

Visiting days and hours depend on whether your friend is sentenced or on remand. If they are sentenced then they get one visit a month; you can check with HMP for the days. If they are on remand they get weekly visits. I dont recall the days for remand but, I think it is atleast 3 days of the week.

Food; if you want to take food that is collected on Sundays for those on remand. YOu can take food on a weekly basis. If they are sentenced, I think it is less; but I wouldnt know since I stopped going at this point.

Oh, you are allowed to plastic containers of food one medium and one small. Check with HMP for allowed dimensions. You cant take drinks anymore, they have to purchased at the commissary.

Clothes; No revealing tops, tight clothes, short shorts, mini-skirts, anything that could be deemed revealing. My best suggestion t-shirt and jeans. Oh if your hair is pinned up, they might ask you take it down, so be forewarned.(I got into the nastiest row over this and almost left before a visit, cuz they wanted me to take down my pin-up, I had just come the hairdresser.)

ID: Take your passport and/or drivers license.

Process: You need to go early on the morning of the visit (8am) and get a number. Trust you need to do this, cuz the amounts of ppl there can make it an all day affair, if you dont get an early number.

Visits generally start around 12, with processing and to some extant searching. After all that is done, you will have to board buses to the designated area; remand ctr, max, medium, woman's, etc.

From that point you ho into the visitor room and the prisoner comes out shortly. These are non-contact visits, you sit either side of a crude chicken wire cage. The officer will let you know when the visit is over.

That is about it. Hope it helps

I would not suggest a t-shirt as your bra may show through and they will not let you through. I had that experance as a female officer noticed that my white bra was barly visable through my light blue top. But the officer at the window cleared her up as I not only presented my Passport I presented my letter of transition. (My passport still shows male and I think it took them off gaurd and they did not know what to do. All were very profesional and respectful though. When you give respect you get it as some of the women with hard mouths did not get to visit that day.) Next was the search, even though I was with mother of the woman I was going to see. All the other female were searched in the groups for the person they were visiting. I was seperated from my group for the search. An older female officer whom I must say was very profesional did the search just she and I in the room. Oh if your hair is pinned up, they might ask you take it down, so be forewarned.(I got into the nastiest row over this and almost left before a visit, cuz they wanted me to take down my pin-up, I had just come the hairdresser.)

I also got there around 10 am any way better to check. before you go.

Not really, Fox Hill is a place where you do not have to go. BEHAVE! Like I said you must be special to me. I have a cousin who is a repeat offender.

I am not going through all of that to see him, when all he has to do is behave. If he behaves, I could see him every day without chicken wires.

There must be special circumstances for me to put myself through all that to visit.
