View Full Version : Fred Mitchell in Belize
guavashells 02-09-08, - 02:45 PM Can someone please tell Fred that he is no longer the Minister of Foreign Affairs and people just aren't interesetd in him . He is patehtic and in love with himself. He hurts the PLP's already tarnished image, why can't they stop him? His behaviour is despicable.
tonymontana 02-09-08, - 02:51 PM fred wants to be the president of the carribean, so he has to make his rounds of all the countries he hopes to one day rule over.
bahamiangoddess 02-09-08, - 02:58 PM WHERE!!
tonymontana 02-09-08, - 03:08 PM can the bahamas just do one month without ackowledging fred mitchell. i beleive if we do he might just go away.
round_robbin 02-09-08, - 03:13 PM Members of the opposition, travel all the time. I remember when the Dems won the house and the senate, their first trip was on an "official" visit to Iraq and Iran, as a team.
I think Syomonette, should travel more as well- it would serve him some good to have some exposure.
chancellor 02-09-08, - 03:15 PM The PLP before it became the government has had these inter-regional relations with most if not all oppositions of their respective caribbean nations before it became the government with Fred Mitchell as shadow foreign minister. Now he's doing it again.
What annoys me is that we need only ONE voice in foreign affairs. We look confused and uncommited to our foreign policy when Symmonette says one thing, then comes along Mitchell making technical jargon about how much The Bahamas is so not supporting Governmnet policies. Sometimes I feel that mitchell is still angry at the people because we did not back his commitment to CSME after he went around telling everyone how the people would buy into it.
I mean the PLP is not the govenrment, why would any foreign office of a nation with a functioning government even care about anything other that the official word of the government? We look crazy and divided, when we have a guy like Fred, showing people that we have people in this country that hate the government so that we will have people going out of their way, flying hundreds of miles to literally try to make the nation look bad. He thinks he is making the FNM look bad, he is making the Bahamas look bad, making him Head clown of state since he is the face of this campaign.
Mitchell, no one cares anymore about what the PLP "was gonna do" or "was about to do", or "what you would have done if you was the government", especially not other countries with enough domestic crap on their hands, because the sad thing is when you were the government, not only did you not dp those things, or announce any intention to do some of those things, but what really kills everyone is that your government cited the need to do many things and still sat on your lard arses and fiddled in parliament. If you passed a law, you didn't bring it into force. That is your record.
Face the truth, that your former government was led by a man who held (and I dare say) 90% support on initiatives that would change this country all around, but was to much of a fassy to do it because he was afraid of the 10% opposition. Go sit down Fred Mitchell, go sit in the opposition side of the HOA, go and sit back to you law office and think of ways to build the Bahamas with the government we have, instead of making impediments.
tonymontana 02-09-08, - 03:19 PM So said so done.dats dat:hammer:
round_robbin 02-09-08, - 03:19 PM Chancellor:
Isn't Fred Mitchell the opposition spokesman on Foreign Affairs- at least?
How else would a shadow minister of foreign affairs, be informed, if he does not partake in foreign affairs?
Getting upset with this, is like getting upset when people like John Kerry and Brack Obama, critisize the president openly- which they have.
Look. The FNM is the government of the Bahamas- any idiot can see that chancellor. If it confuses you, and if you are upset that the FNM can't get their agenda off of the ground, when we have in house, the strongest leader in the Caribbean at the helm in Hubert Ingraham, then you are totally mistaken.
Hubert Alexander Ingraham is the leader- nothing can change that. And, if you and FNM supporters, are that shallow and think skinned, then you probably don't have anything backing your platform, other than hot air.
tonymontana 02-09-08, - 03:26 PM Robbin i beleive you missed the point . Fred want to be the officail spokesperson for foreign policies as they reflect his veiw and his past administrations view on shoulda woulda coulda. they had an opertunity to advance there cause in the carribean they missed the boat so allow this government to charter its own foreign policy without him coming from behind (no pun intended). everytime brent makes a statement our visit a carribean country fred comes from behind (sorry). fred then visits that country withanother agenda . it makes us look foolish and makes fred the biggest of them all. i recently spoke with a freind of mine who works in the prim ministers office in a jamaica he says fred literally lives in jamaiaca allways saying what his governmen would have done for the university and for the bahamain student there. he needs to let it go.

He could do one other thing:
be the MP for Fox Hill.
Be the best damn MP that the country has every seen. Build individual credibility in his ability to do something for his constituancy.
I think some people actually elected him to do that. :sarcastic:
Then again - Fox Hill ain't Trini, Barbados or Belize!

A shadow foreign affairs minister does not go to all the ends of the earth diliberately making antagonistic remarks for the record.
I have no problems with open opposition, like all the other shadow ministers, but not only is he very bold, but really thinks people care when he goes speaking off to foreign countries who may or may not know who the hell is the PLP. The PLP will make a better impact here and ironically internationally if they actuall keep and do their business here.
The difference between the Democrats and the PLP is that the Democrats are dealing with US AFFAIRS. The US occupation in Iraq is a US affair. The US's initiatives of building Iraq is a US affair. Also the argument with the Democrats are null because the Democrats have control of the US congress. THey, the governing Party of the US Congress, HAS THE RIGHT AS MUCH AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE US, to make records of their involvement in US affairs. Not only is it their right, but their resposibility. The Democrats unlike the PLP is the ruling party on an arm of th US legislature. what is the PLP the ruling party of? When did the Bahamas government have anything to do with the Belize Elections, or Barbados? The only thing would ever do is congratulate the new parties.
The argument is not who is the government. That argument is for kindergardeners who don't know thier social studies. The argument here is untiy and solidarity. It is also a statement about appearances.

Aside from the gay rumours, Fred Mitchell is liked in his constituency- as weird as that is to me.
I would have never have thought, any politician, could have won, with the communities understanding of a perceived homosexual lifestyle- especially in an area as Fox Hill.
What are the other MP's doing anyways? FNM and PLP? Status report on all would be nice!
tonymontana 02-09-08, - 03:44 PM staying in there commuities. not flying of as a roving ambassador.
tonymontana 02-09-08, - 03:46 PM and what are these rumors about fred being gay not because he practice backdoor diplomacy makes the gay rumors substantial. lets stick to the facts man

Your puns, appear to reveal the truth, as to why you you like to bother with Fred Mitchell- pun intended.
Look. He did a fantastic job as foreign minister. He travelled all the time- prepared documents for CSME and the EPA. Got the e-passport initiative started. He has done and has served his country well.
You seem to on the tail end of this issue- pun intended-by you, not even in full understanding of all what went on with foreign affairs. With all of the firestorm with his positions- extensive travel, CSME and EPA as well as relations with China, Cuba and the UN, he has made the foreign affairs post, attractive in this country.
Before that, we had know that there was in fact a post called Minster of Foreign Affairs- Sir Clement Maynard, Janet Bostwick, Sir Orville Turnquest- but, what was THEIR legacy, which made the post, such a sore spot for people who did not have the interest initially, to make it a neccesary and coveted post in the Bahamian cabinet?
