natureboy2136 02-09-08, - 09:32 PM I was at the airport this morning talking to a few of my friends, when a young white guy came walking up to us out of the clear blue & ask if we ever been to spanish wells. We replied no, then he yelled DON'T GO. So we ask him why? then he said spanish wells is loaded with white racist men who don't like black people. Now this guy is visiting the Bahamas from Canada, he said that he was hear for a full month & he love the people hear in the Bahamas. he said he visited paridise Island, Exuma, & spanish wells.
He also said that he was at a store purchasing ice cream & their was to little black girls their waiting to be serve, & the people would not serve the little girls. They was calling him from the back of the line in front of the little girls, as was everyone else. He said he got so pissoff & left. He talk to us as if he'll never go back to SW because he hait the locals their. Now it's strange hearing this today, because this guy is a foreigner & i know we had recently an incident with the woman alleging racism because of her daughter being denied in a pagent.

So you take a 3rd party account of a story as truth?
Did he take the time to find out why the two little girls weren't being served? Was it because of their race? You nor he knows that for a fact.
Suppose those two little girls previously had been caught doing something in the store that they should not have been doing, thereby each becoming a persona non grata.
Some people jump to conclusions so quickly and start spreading rumors.
Find out the real story behind that story before you jump on that bandwagon kid.

Racist persons are everywhere, but the fact of the matter is that with your innocent statement regarding your individual experiences, you are reinforcing the uninformed opinion which is floating around presently in this Bahamaland that every single member of the Spanish Wells community is racist.
We need to break the hold of this black versus white mentality.

Okay, now, I never been to Bahamas, much less SW but I'mma tell y'all why, from my perspective, if you gave me those answers, I'd tell y'all something is wrong.
1) If the girls had been in the store before stealing, I have never met a store owner in my life, no matter where in the world I go, that will let tiefs just stand in line in their store. Especially if they are kids, they would have been asked to leave and chances are, they would have said outloud why those girls were being kicked out to save themselves looking like insensitive pricks in front of other people.
2) If the girls had no money, and the storeowner knew that they had no money, they may not be kicked out of the store but I'm sure someone would have told them to get out of the line. Something would have been said.
Maybe the storeowners in the SW are just weird but me personally, if any walked into my store with a history of stealing from it, OR, if they were standing in line and I know they don't have money, I would have told them to leave, not act like they don't exist.

People right now are trying hard to find anything resembling racism on that island to bolster the case of a lady who called SW people racist when her black grandchild couldn't enter a pageant over there. The problem was that the pageant was for girls who were "born" in Spanish Wells. Needless to say, the grand daughter didn't qualify.
If those girls were kicked out of the store, the first cry out of someone's mouth would have been: "See, they are kicking the little black girls out of their stores. They are racist!"
I do not blame them for merely pretending that they weren't there instead of kicking them out, even if there was some reason why the girls should have not been in the store.
Someone is gonna try to set a Spanish Wells person up to try and "prove a point" over the next few months...Just watch. Some people will not let that pageant situation go. As a reflex reaction, SW residents probably will be a bit more insular - What's sad is that their ambivalence to outsiders likely will be interpreted as racism as well.
In all seriousness, if I was a Spanish Wells resident, I would be pissed right now because for a good while ANYTHING that they do which involves a black Bahamian will be scrutinized and held under a "racism" magnifying glass. THAT must suck.

No, down here it is typical for kids to stand in line without the right amount of money and or trying to decide what they are going to order, pay for, or whatever they are just standing there for, happens just about every day I goto the gas station here. Kids just there holding up the line so eventually the cashier tells us to come in front of them, us being black and white or whoever color skin is in the line.
Down here once again, plenty kids teif, especially school kids, are made to leave their school bags at the door, and they only let a couple of them in the stores at one time - its a normal thing here - retail businesses get robbed blind down her, but then the staff like to tief alot also.
Customers (and even the cashiers for that matter) typically will not want to say anything unless really necessary, as the kids in many cases end up cussing you out, or worse - I have witnessed it many times - then again, many times I have witnessed kids just jump in front of the line and THEN cuss out anyone that says something - god help the customer if they are a caucasian and they say something, they get cussed so bad bout white this and white that, seen it too often, and they cuss everyone out, men, women, babies even, no matter color of their skin.
Personally SpamStopper has never been to SW so cant comment on that place.

royal_black_man 02-10-08, - 04:39 AM Yorick and Spamstopper,
I hear what y'all are saying, honestly, but the thing is, as a storeowner, it's neccessary to take control of your shop. Some kids may go in there and tief simply because they know they can stand around for hours and nobody is gonna say nothing to them. You know how they say idle hands are tools for the devil. Also, normally when I'm in a shop and I'm deciding what to get, I won't stand in the cashier line because I know that is rude and inconsiderate to paying customers. Any person in your shop that is not paying is technically not a buyer yet and as such, you do have a right to ask them to leave the cashier line until they decide what products they want to purchase. If they make noise, you are within your right to tell them to leave.
I mean, say you blocked two young black girls from a store, sure the first thought is gonna be racism, UNTIL you tell the public that they have been caught stealing in your store. The embarassment alone to their families may never have them go into your store again AND people will feel stupid for using the race card. But when you act like they don't exist, don't provide any reason, and then, serve all your white customers first, how can the owner really prove he's not been racist ? Basically, not saying anything puts them in a worse situation then if they said something.

It seems you did not understood SpamStopper's post.
The Kids just stand around, it is normal here, they are rude also.
And this is the Bahamas, its not all about race here.
Also, what do you say when it is a black cashier telling a black customer to cut in front of a white customer? Whats that called, as that happens every day to SpamStopper - but SpamStopper knows there could be some other reason for it, SpamStopper does not know what conspired between the other customer and the cashier prior, nor knows the relationship between the 2 of them, and really doesn't care that much as he just wants to pay for his stuff to get out of the store, fight traffic, and get home.
This story from the OP sounds pretty lame to begin with, in other words someone would not go up to total strangers just to tell them about something that happened on another island and especially when the people they are telling can do nothing about it. And why he mentions the island is loaded with racist people when he only encountered one person - the story is made up.
In other words, ignore this thread because it is SPAMMMM!!!!
