Hey Andros Ann - I recall you mentioning that you know alot about bush medicine so I need your help. My grammy made me some bush medicine and I need to know what a particular bush is good for. She boiled me some cerasee, sage and a bush called "Spirit" bush. I have never heard about spirit bush so just wanted to know its benefits. I am a little skeptical so I havn't drank it as yet. Cerasee - I am cool with. Even sage is fine. But spirit bush - I just don't know:confused:
If anyone else knows feel free to chime in. Thanks.

Baby Girl please ask Grammy if "spirit" bush has any other names as I am not familiar with it by that name. This may be a case where different islands call plants by different names.

I asked my mother what spirit bush is and she gave me enough clues to figure it out. It is a small bush that grows in the Caribbean:
Latin name: Stenandrium tuberosum
Known as: spirit bush, Mata espirita, Yerba maravilla blanca, white miracle herb, shaggy tuft
Evergreen perennial flowering bush
Family: Acanthaceae
Group: Dicot
Native Status: Native
Perennation: Perennial
Substrate: Terrestrial, Limestone
Distributional range:
Native:
SOUTHERN AMERICA
Caribbean: Dominican Republic; Guadeloupe; Haiti; Netherlands Antilles - South St. Martin; Puerto Rico; Virgin Islands (U.S.) - St. John, St. Thomas
The herb is reputed to give lightness to the body, brightness to the eyes, and added length of life. It also clears yer runny nose. It is ultimately part of the magnolia family. It should be harmless to take.

hey, we call that stuff shaggy tuft on eleuthera ... it's used as an overall tonic to boost the immune system and prevent colds. to my nose, ALL of that stuff smells pretty bad, so i brew it up in a mason jar and keep it in the icebox. i can knock back a shot of cerasee most mornings of the week that way.
whatever you do, don't add lime or sugar to the mix, because that will apparently cut way back on its efficiency.
