Airline worker denies cocaine charge
By ARTESIA DAVIS,Guardian Senior Reporter,artesia@nasguard.com
A ticket agent at a Haiti-based airline charter company was denied bail on cocaine conspiracy, possession and importation charges.
Manusca Lipotes Dolce, 30, of Cap Haitien in northern Haiti, is the third defendant to be charged in the case. Investigations began when a kilo of cocaine was found on a charter plane at the Lynden Pindling International Airport on November 2, 2007.
Dolce is charged along with policeman Wilson Joseph, 34, of High Vista, and Jacoby Knowles, 24, of Ida Street.
Police allege that the three defendants entered a conspiracy that began on October 9, 2007 and ended on November 2, 2007.
They are charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to supply, conspiracy to import cocaine, cocaine possession with intent to supply and cocaine importation.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges. Defendants Knowles and Wilson were arraigned last year. Officer Wilson has been suspended from his duties on the Police Force and placed on half-pay until the matter is completed.
Prosecutor Ercell Dorsett objected to bail for Dolce because she has no ties to the country. Magistrate Carolita Bethel agreed. She said, "I am not going to place the defendant on bail. She has no ties to The Bahamas and on the terms of her employment, she has the capacity to leave here at will."
A June 19 trial date has been set.
