View Full Version : Bahamian Music on CDs
islandgyal 02-18-08, - 08:39 PM people keep asking as to hits from smokey 007, t-connection, percentie brothers, ratty sweeting, the diatones and the like from times past, and i can't wait for ministry of culture to get its act together ... is there any bahamian site for classic throwdown bahamian music on CDs, from charlie lofthouse, blind blake and the like? if not, (hint, hint: YORICK) is anyone planning to develop a compilation series?
any hints would be much appreciated.
shakey 02-18-08, - 08:45 PM we need to promote more of our bahamian music and stop promoting outher country music:

:confused:Right now all that I want is to produce a CD with only Junkanoo beats.
No whistles, no horns and no cowbells...Just goatskin drums and a few talented people doing their thing.
As for the compilation website, the concept is an excellent one and we have the technology and know-how to do it. The only thing missing is getting the permission of the artists/local production companies.
Now ask me again why it's not being done...
:shhh:
SpamStopper 02-18-08, - 10:53 PM CD? Should be filling up a DVD with MP3s so people can play tons of them in their PCs .. :)
Also, could simply drop a bunch of them into ISOs then have those for paid download online. (never tried an ISO for Audio though).
Could also put them into TrueCrypt Volumes and put the volume in the ISO/DVD then once the user pays they can get the Password to mount that volume on their PC. Meanwhile could have a few freebies in the main root of the ISO/DVD. The Password box pops up on Autorun or could do Autoplay in this case. If they dont have the password they can just explore the DVD and play the freebies until they pay.
garnelleo 02-18-08, - 10:53 PM Try to hit up them musicians who play at the hotels. A drummer at muh church plays at Atlantis. I dont know where or who he gets the CDs from but wheenever a new CD comes out he gets a copy free (a real copy). He has Bahamian hits from back in the day to like whatever is the last CD that came out.
He often comes by me to burn a mix for him whenever he has some event he gets called to DJ or whatever.
islandgyal 02-19-08, - 12:02 PM someone pointed me to bahamaislandmusic.com, but it doesn't look bahamian ... is this site legit?

yup...it runs out of Florida. Been around for a while now and last time I checked (about 5 years ago), they had something to do with the best of the best series.
But still...
islandgyal 02-19-08, - 12:10 PM so the bahamian artists featured here are seeing some royalties, then, unlike some of the other chop sites that just burn and sell CDs with no compensation to the artists? (that's what i meant by legit.)

Oh, that kind of legit.
I believe so, but to make sure, call up Lester Turnquest - the producer, not the former politician.
Is THAT what you meant by a "compilation site"?

nah, was thinking along the lines of those quarterly CDs issued by stores, magazines, websites that show off various artists ... thought that it would be a great moneymaker for DaBahamianTing.com. In your spare time :cutie:, of course.

Puts islandgyal's idea in the list of "to do's"
SpamStopper 02-19-08, - 02:02 PM Isnt that Bahamian Music place situated in the same shopping center that Hit Spot is, right in the corner?
