View Full Version : Who is going to heaven?
Teniel 12-09-04, - 06:18 PM
This is a question I recently pondered, and wondered what persons in this forum though about it, that is those that actually believe such a place exists. What I observe is that the various faiths today have their own prescription for getting into in heaven. Christians believe that only Christians, ie. those that are born again will enter heaven's gate. I assume (correct me if I am wrong) that other religions such as Islam believe that only those that believe in Allah will see heaven, and I am not knowlegdable about other faiths like Budhism so CG help me out. And denominations like Jehovah witnesses believe that a select few numbering 144,000 will only see the pearly white gates, and so forth.
Someone once told me that persons from the various faiths will enter heaven, not just Christians or Jews for example. In essence Heaven will be a smorgasborg of indivduals who practiced different faiths but were in essence virtuous and displayed the goodwill one should show to ones fellow man during life, essentially they would all be really good, kind-hearted individuals, who just happen to pray differently and worship a god of a different name. What do you guys think of that logic?
Just want to hear your thoughts.
Rizzo 12-09-04, - 07:45 PM I often ponder about the same thing sometimes...but one can be left dwelling for a long time (at least those who hope to go to heaven when they die).
I try not to think about it because it leads to many questions about heaven, not the question of whether there is a heaven...but what it would be like.
For instance, if someone is married, and their spouse dies...and they marry another...and their spouse dies, then they finally die...who would be their spouse in heaven?...how would it be exactly? MAybe we won't even remember each other!....Heaven is a funny subject to discuss...I think all of us would be on one accord spiritually though....there won't be any islam/baptist/catholic or whatever....no religions...just bliss.....I dunno...one can ponder all day like I said.....who knows?
Cool?...cool... :dancer2:

My thought is heaven is in each and everyone of us. My thought is no matter how different not just Christians will reach the Creator.
On your question about Buddhist and who will go to heaven. I think I can answer your question by saying, Buddhism does not believe itself to be the only faith, the only path, the only way. All human kind shares a common essence, a common need to reach out to something greater - expressed in the different forms we call religion. In view of that we would say, sure, there is room for all in a heaven.
As for thinking about heaven. I used to, a lot. The older I get you would think I would think about it more but I don't. My researches have found that heaven and hell are at the "top end" of those things that must be believed by faith. There is no evidence only belief. Heaven can be whatever my imagination can make it to be, or it might not be there at all. Time will tell if it is there, only time will tell.
In the recent years, two thousand years to be precise, Christendom has high-jacked the belief in heaven and shut the door on those who are not their kind. Yet, they forget the idea of heaven, or an after life, goes back, at least to Neanderthal Man and possibly farther back than that - back into the dark recesses of man's early history.
So then the next question must be, "What is the price of entrance?" Is it belief in a person, i.e. Christ? Or the manner in which one lived their life? It was almost always thought to be a place where the "good" go, those who lived unselfishly, hurt no one and helped his fellow man. But there are, and have been Religions that demand an allegiance to a savior in order to get in. As, I say - time will tell!
bsmbahamas 12-10-04, - 04:13 PM from my bible studies, there won't be any husbands or wives in heaven, neither will you remeber one another as you do here on earth.
Also if you follow Jesus' teachings, there is only one way to get to the Father
and that is by believing on Jesus. There is no other way given.
The bible teaches that salvation comes by faith alone, not by works. works follow naturally if you live a saved life. Granted you can still sin and ask for forgiveness. However, you must continually work on your new character.
Repenting means to turn away from sin, good works is not enough, rather they should follow you naturally as you live a saved life.
there are many religions out there and all don't beleive in a heaven, and many believe in many gods and often also involve praying to the dead and other things that are contrary to the teachings of the bible.
You will notice that most religions are based on or practice things that are contrary to the bible's teachings. many break the first commandment. others just tolerate or accept people as they are.
christianity in particular tolerates people as they are, but the focus of salvation is in admitting that you are a sinner, repenting of your sinful ways, beleiving in Jesus and what he teached, and then to continually improve yourself and teach others about christianity.
if you believe in many gods, life after death, accepting people as they are i.e. no need to repent, praying to the dead (Mary and the Saints), practicing sorcery among other things, then your religion is not based on christian principles.
whether we will reincarnate, just dissolve back to dust, or go to heaven?
who knows?
I have life insurance for my time here and for my time away from from here.
and as far as I can see all other religions conflict ith the bible in one or more points and th bible seems to explain things best to me past, present and presumably the future.
Nobody can prove the existence of heaven or hell, the way I see it - history has a lot of evidence that Jesus was here, and on the other hand there are satanists in the real world. If there are satanists, then there must be a God, since he created the angel that the bible says became satan.
If all these other things the bible speaks of appear to be true then salvation must be true as well ...
Oh and the jehovah witnesses don't beleive that only 144,000 will be saved, they are just members of an elite class as far as I understand, many more will be saved.
from my bible studies, there won't be any husbands or wives in heaven, neither will you remember one another as you do here on earth.
That is true in part. I think the Bible says that there will be no marriage in heaven. If we can recognized each other? I hope so.
Also if you follow Jesus' teachings, there is only one way to get to the Father
and that is by believing on Jesus. There is no other way given.
That is also true, as the Bible states it. But them most religions make the same claim.

Yet, the Bible says, "Faith without works is dead!" Works are part-and-parcel of faith. But as you say, they should spring from faith.

This is also true. But I would doubt that there are many religions that do not believe in some kind of heaven.
You will notice that most religions are based on or practice things that are contrary to the bible's teachings. many break the first commandment. others just tolerate or accept people as they are.
What a shocking thing! Toleration! :sarcastic
christianity in particular tolerates people as they are, but the focus of salvation is in admitting that you are a sinner, repenting of your sinful ways, beleiving in Jesus and what he teached, and then to continually improve yourself and teach others about christianity.
In 1763 Voltaire remarked that "of all religions, the Christian is undoubtedly that which should instil the greatest toleration, although so far the Christians have been the most intolerant of all men." Happily, the Christian faith has gotten more tolerant but that is because they have no choice. Mankind has taken away the Churches power. If the Church should be allowed to run a state we would see the rack and the thumb screws come out again, in the name of love of course!
if you believe in many gods, life after death, accepting people as they are i.e. no need to repent, praying to the dead (Mary and the Saints), practicing sorcery among other things, then your religion is not based on christian principles.
Or is it your Christian principles, as you see it? There are many good Catholics that would disagree with you on the Mary thing, and the saints.
whether we will reincarnate, just dissolve back to dust, or go to heaven? who knows?
Who knows indeed. In view of that tolerance is more important.

Other religions would say that Christianity conflicts with them! But it works for you. That is good.

No, it does not!

If there is good there must be evil. If there is evil there must be good. Very Taoist! And I agree!
If all these other things the bible speaks of appear to be true then salvation must be true as well ...
But are they true? Or do you just believe they are true?

This is so.
parietal_03 12-11-04, - 02:36 AM If you believe what The Vulgate says then we have something to truly consider. Enoch was taken. Elijah was taken. Moses died and appeared later at the Transfiguration. Yeshua was taken.
But did not Yeshua say that He was, "going to prepare a place for us?" Wasn't Heaven already created from back in Genesis? And didn't Yeshua on the cross use the term "Paradise?"
Re-read the Bible with this in mind and you may latch on to something important. We don't go to Heaven. What some Christian pastors/ministers misinform us to be called "Heaven" comes to us. I'm with Vicki on this one. We don't go to a mystical shiny cube city beyond the sky.
I believe man was formed from the old dust of this old earth we live on.
I believe that when this Establishment comes down here to us on a new earth, our bodies, hearts and mind are changed for the new earth. So I cannot with this mind, body, heart and soul - in equipoise truly consider what it will be like.

There is historical evidence of belief that Christ was here. One of the big gatherings of church heads 325 years after Christ’s death. They got together and organized the religion and put the Bible together as we know it today. They decided what was Christian and what was not.
Problem is:
1 How much do we know of 325 years ago?? Did they have better ways of keeping recorded and we don't. History in the Bible says Christ was executed as a criminal. Please name and tell the story of an executed criminal in the Bahamas.
2 this great meeting where they organized Christianity is the Nicene Council. Have you ever researched this? Let me give you a clue. Emperor Constantine a Pagan called the council. He paid the to come up with 50 copies of 1 version of the Bible for his churches.
3 What you need is real proof to make your claim real evidence. Faith in a story is only faith in a story no matter how many people believe it. After all the world is flat right?

read the second paragraph
It was at this time it was decided that Christ was the Creator and the Creators son at the same time.

peach10:13 05-13-05, - 04:31 PM I think that it doesn't matter if your "Christian" or not, as long as you have let Jesus take over your life and you believe that he died for you and so on. (some don't classify that as a christian) I know that Babtists think that they can never lose salvation. I wonder where in the Bible they found that but i know it's not true. You have to always believe...or literally die when you die.

"John 10:29 My Father, who hath given them unto me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand."
That would be a verse that "proves" once saved, always saved. Take that for what it is worth.
In your description, "I think that it doesn't matter if your "Christian" or not, as long as you have let Jesus take over your life and you believe that he died for you and so on." Well that describes a Christian! That is a Christian! If one does not believe in Christ, one is not a Christian! If one does, then they are!

So does a guy, for example, gets saved and then a year later finds himself doing drugs etc..Is he still saved? i don't think i'm grasping this concept.
about the 2nd paragragh. When ever i say something like that, someone always debates w/ me saying their not a christian or they don't like the label of "christian". Don't ask me what there problem is.

I don't think I understand it either, but it works for those who say "once saved always saved." Catholics, on the other hand don't hold to that belief. They say one can die in a state that is outside the state of grace. So, for them a believer can still be lost.

Say what they will! If one follows the teachings of Christ one is at least in part, a Christian. Why one would be reluctant to be labeled as such is a mystery indeed!
canewry 05-18-05, - 02:01 PM I think we need to change this thread topic to: whom is not going to heaven...life would be easier don't you think?
