View Full Version : Jobs
Little Fisherman 02-26-08, - 08:17 PM Seems like there are few jobs available right now.
Either one goes for some that there are over qualified and be out in the back burner.
I have set my resume to a dozen companies, and I just figured out one thing... I am to old for anyone to be interested. Does not matter that my last US job paid 50K, I would be happy with half of that to just get out of the house and be productive.
I have worked for several lawyers in Nassau and it is always the same dilemma. They see that they are paying someone that is being paid well below the skill range, and I would challenge them when it come to ethics and paying for ones ability.
There just is not a job for an educated, skilled semi-professional in the 50's range.
Easier to hire a 20 year old, fill their head with BS and pay $150 a week.

Well it depends on the industry, but generally, when making an investment in your workforce, you want to be able to train someone and generally that comes more with youthful workers. If you dont mind me asking, what did you do for lawyers?

There is truth in that, but young people have a major flaw........very few are dependable when it comes to either being on time or neva miss work.:hammer:

Personal Assistant, (keeping people away that he did not want to talk to), Legal Assistant, (female lawyer) typing all the legal documents, research, meaning Lands and Survey Dept, Conveyances, which I did very well, Flying to out islands and meeting real estate persons in regards to property, Wills, Divorces etc.
I found most Lawyers are crooks when you get into the inside of their dealings.

For that last paragraph...NO TRUER WORDS HAVE BEEN SPOKEN!!:hammer: If the right to bear arms and to protect ones possesions at all cost were legal... there would be far less live lawyers and all the rest would be "honest."
canesfins 02-26-08, - 09:40 PM The key word might be "Most" and not all. I am no crook, never have been, never will be, and I despise the idea of stealing from someone.

Well then on behalf of myself and the entire Bahamaland. I challenge you to run for the next president of The Bahamas Bar Association. Whether you win or not, fight against the crooked lawyers who are giving your proffesion a bad name.
GOOD LUCK!!...

Job Search For The Over 50 (http://www.cvtips.com/over_50_job_search.html)
good luck.
Ting-um 03-01-08, - 08:48 AM I would share the initial sentiment - but I haven't gotten to the point desperation yet. I've had a few interviews that seemed...ummm...I guess I can say "unbelievable"..
I noticed that the Bahamian job market is saturated by lower skilled, less knowledgeable persons desperately clinging to an opportunity they got either because of political ties or because they were in the right place at the right time. At least from what I've seen in the finance/economics sector. And because these offices/teams are so small you barely have any room for advancement - regardless of what you know.
I almost feel as though I'd be better off reading the obituaries waiting for a decent opportunity to "make itself available" because it seems like that's the only way the people that deserve the opportunity will actually get it.
