Great Demos

No Great Demos it is the other way around. For Christians its simply "you fit in our way or you don't fit in. If you don't fit in we will point you out we will condemn who you are we will condemn how you live. We will eve have protest in Rawson sq.

Vicky, I can't understand for the life of me why you keep focusing on some Christian rabble rousers, people who get carried away by their religion, and perhaps don't even know what they they are doing. Those persons who demonstrated during the arrival of the last ship were NOT a part of the Christian Council, neither were they authorised to demonstrate by the Council! I told you this before on a previous post!

Its not good to dwell and focus and be so obsessed by the past all the time. Yes, from time to time we should think briefly of the past to see if or how we are progressing, but making the past our main focus all the time is like going backwards! Lets look ahead and move onward! Ok?

there are radicals in every religion.

and the rainbow alliance and all the gay people are protesting as well.

Too bad the radicals give christianity a bad name. All christians are not like that. Our primary function is to spread the gospel, not 'persecute' unbelievers. Too many christians get caught up with pointing out the sins of others instead of preaching the gospel like Jesus instructed.

Notice when I criticize the same sex marriage I did so on a forum in a debate which was setup to discuss the subject - I don't go out of my way to protest against the GBLT community. I am primarily concerned with sharing the gospel and explaining the bible as I understand it - if one of them gets saved, the bible will point out there wrong doings - no need for me to do that.

But all religions have a right to advise the government on matters that will affect society - just as the rainbow alliance is a group that wishes to advise the government. Ultimately the government makes the laws not the public advisory groups. Nothing wrong with voicing your opinion as long as it is done with tact and respect - radicals don't care about tact, they let their emotions get the better of them.

I am sure all of the radicals who were at the protest could not honestly cast the first stone. Really and truly they should appeal directly to the government not do their own thing - especially if the government allowed the ship to dock.

Forcing your view on somebody rarely works, if you converse without allowing the other side to speak then your not discussing, rather you are announcing.

Ideally both groups should approach the government in a respectful manner and let them decide what to do with the laws.

I associate with gay and feminine type males, I am not afraid of them but I will still always tell them that homosexuality is a sin - if they ask and only if they ask my opinion.

Like you asked vicky, what difference does it make to a christian if same sex marriages are given the ok - it makes no difference, but that does not mean it is ok by God's standards. But who really cares right? After all I am not responsible for lost souls if I tried respectfully and failed.

but how could I even have a chance or hope of winning you over to my views if I am launching a protest against you?

Here's a good question vicky - adultery was punishable by death in the pre-Jesus days but now it has no penalty at all, at least that I know of. Why aren't the radicals protesting against adultery?

Hi bsm, I must say I really like this answer and fully agree with it. I think it ranks among the best on bahamasissues.com

Puts me in mind of a friend whom I told one time that no matter how disgusting or immoral you find a person, don't let them know that you dislike them and don't treat them badly. He asked me why and I told him that one day you may need something very badly, a favour or whatever, and you may find that the the ONLY person who can help you is that same person with those bad ways! [During that time I was not into Christianity]

A few months had passed and one day he came to me thanking me so much for the advice. He was dealing with someone who was very obnoxious. He treated the person well. It turned out that my friend badly needed a rare item that was not available in the Bahamas. That same disgusting fellow was the ONLY person able to supply my friend with the needed item!

This piece of knowledge I had learned the hard way, through experience!

Someone once said 'a wise man learns from his mistakes', my religious knowledge teacher gave a better version - 'a wise man learns from his mistakes but a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others'.

That's why I like to read - to benefit from the millions of pages of mistakes recorded by people that have gone before me, but hanging around older people *with integrity* works as well, but be careful "wisdom does not always come with age, sometimes age comes alone".

I personally witnessed this when my mom was trying to help me get a job. She ran into an admirer from the past that she gave the run around to. Turns out that he was the manager of the store, and although he did not interview me he had to OK it. He reminded her of how she treated him back then and told her to be careful how treats people, and I was hired.

I have seen bums that I used to give money to regularly turn their lives around and are living better than I do on a banker's salary! More importantly they look out for me just like I did for them. I know of friends that got rich and switched and forgot about the little people, now they are back in the dumps.

One of the best things you can ever do is feed someone who is hungry, they will never forget you.

I like these 2 verses more than most others:

Proverbs 3:28
Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

Ecclesiastes 11:1
Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
(another version interprets it as - Be generous: Invest in acts of charity. Charity yields high returns.)

Every human should be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their race(there is only one race - the human race) or financial standing, ever notice how every one hangs out after a hurricane takes away the electricity
and most of the shops are closed that sell vanity items, notice how casually everyone dresses - no neckties and coats? Even the bums seem to be accepted into company during those conditions.

Developing a virtuous character is never a bad thing - you may end up with many fans and be regarded as a mentor/role-model by many.

And don't ever forget about humility:

Ecclesiastes 4:13
Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.

(Just try to correct your pastor even privately)

These wise sayings put me in mind of something my father used to say -- don't know where he got it from:

"Be good to a man when he is down,
Be good to a man when he is in sorrow,
For this world has peculiar ways,
And YOU may be down tomorrow".

An older brother of mine used to say: "Knowledge comes quickly, but Wisdom lingers"

One of the things I have been noticing for years now is the wisdom and common sense of many people who would be regarded as backward or uneducated. I just like to associate with them and to learn from them. Over the years I've gotten some great and useful advice from such persons!

I just love being humble, and I guide my behaviour by this verse: "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself". (Phil 2:3)

Trouble is one cannot always distinguish between a Diabolical invitation and a Divine one!

"Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."

Well, we know that was Divine, now - but poor Abraham!!!! and what would you have made of that had you been Abraham?

there are radicals in every religion.

and the rainbow alliance and all the gay people are protesting as well. Sorry we were there to welcome not protest.

Too bad the radicals give christianity a bad name. This is true very true. But until Chirstanity in general takes on a more tolerant position and its (so called) leaders stop standing on lies the radicals will will have nothing to make a stand on. Until the none radacals speak out we will see this kind of thing go on and on.

I am primarily concerned with sharing the gospel and explaining the bible as I understand it As I am doing explaining the Bible as I see it. And if one understands the history and mistakes of Chrisatnity (gets saved) the Bible will point out there wrong doings. - if one of them gets saved, the bible will point out there wrong doings - no need for me to do that.

But all religions have a right to advise the government on matters that will affect society - just as the rainbow alliance is a group that wishes to advise the government. Nothing wrong with voicing your opinion as long as it is done with tact and respect - radicals don't care about tact, they let their emotions get the better of them. No ones opinion should be used to make laws that force people to live according to ones religion. This is what the Taliban did. is it far?????

I am sure all of the radicals who were at the protest could not honestly cast the first stone. Really and truly they should appeal directly to the government not do their own thing - especially if the government allowed the ship to dock.
This is true. But I did not see any protesters out there protesting the protest. Where were you??? Why didn't you get out there and say this.
Forcing your view on somebody rarely works, if you converse without allowing the other side to speak then your not discussing, rather you are announcing.

Ideally both groups should approach the government in a respectful manner and let them decide what to do with the laws. Gov want to stay in power so they can collect nice pay checks. So they will do as the majority, the bigest mouths, want them to do.

Is The Majority alway right????

I associate with gay and feminine type males, I am not afraid of them but I will still always tell them that homosexuality is a sin - if they ask and only if they ask my opinion.
Kudos to you

Go one further how many people are divorced and remarried how many tourist come down and get remarried. Who officiates the remarrying. Christ teaches us that is adultery.

I think you better go back and re read it.

Oh By the way I have never read the Bible from front to back.

Vicky

Here is the differance between you and I. I give and I don't look for a reward. A thanks is nice but not nessary. A "how can I repay you" is even better. Because its opens the door for me to say pass on the good deed.
Every human should be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their race(there is only one race - the human race) or financial standing,
How about gender and gender identity and sexual oriatation???
ever notice how every one hangs out after a hurricane takes away the electricity
and most of the shops are closed that sell vanity items, notice how casually everyone dresses - no neckties and coats? Even the bums seem to be accepted into company during those conditions.

Developing a virtuous character is never a bad thing - you may end up with many fans and be regarded as a mentor/role-model by many.

And don't ever forget about humility:

Ecclesiastes 4:13
Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.

(Just try to correct your pastor even privately)

Bsmbahamas, with all due respect, you seem to be saying that Vicky is not a Christian because he does not see Jesus by the same light you do. Is that correct?

Vicky said he does not believe in Jesus in response to Rizzo in another post, he said no to 3 distinct questions.
"with all due respect" if respect is offered its she or s/he not he.
---

Can you clarify this point?

Vicky admires Jesus teachings like I admire the the teachings of Buddha, but that does not make one a christian.

---

And if I may ask another question, what is a Christian? I know that the short answer would be, a follower of Christ but can you elaborate on that?

A christian is more than just a follower of Christ.

1 John 4:3-6
1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

First and foremost you must believe and tell others if asked that Jesus came as flesh from God - i.e. he is God's son and came to earth as a human being.

Belief in a creator s not enough:

James 2:19
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Belief that good works without faith is not enough:

Ephesians 2:7-9
7That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12
12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Belief that christ is who he said he was - faith, that he was God's only son, that no man cometh to the father but by him, that he is the only way to God, and repenting of sin. Not to be perfect, but to turn away from sin and try to be a new person. Faith is the most important part. Without faith you cannot be saved, and vicky said he does not believe in Jesus. ANd he does not believe that he is alive. If christ didn't die then our faith is in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:12-17

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

and christ would also be a liar, because he went to prepare a place for us:

John 14:1-3
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

if Vicky believes in Jesus then he also believes that he went to prepare a place for us ...

and again Jesus said:

John 3:16-19
For God(not gods) so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

vicky does not believe all this, he believes that christ is dead, if he ever lived at all.

You said you taught religion CG, if you know christianity then you know that salvation is a gift obtained by faith in Jesus, not works.

I am not judging vicky, I am showing him what Jesus himself and the bible says. Jesus will do the judging when he returns. I desire that all be saved. But I want people to be clear on how to be saved - by faith not works, and faith in Jesus.

Trouble is one cannot always distinguish between a Diabolical invitation and a Divine one!

"Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."

Well, we know that was Divine, now - but poor Abraham!!!! and what would you have made of that had you been Abraham?

that is true, but what helps me is that evil or satan always comes in the form of lies and granduer!
usualy the two mixed in wtih each other!
satan is a liar, when i used to hear older folks talk about it i didnt quite really understand, but he truly is a liar of charasmatic capabilities.
but...
he is a liar, and i dont think the angel lied to abraham, he said in order to make a sacrifice, you must sacrifice what you love, and that happened to be his son.
it wanst a lie...he would have been rewarded if god really wanted to reward him...it was all a temptation.
to me that is!

You might be right, but can you think of anything more filled with grandeur that ordering one to sacrifice ones son to God?

True, but he is alos a master of half truths - which are more dangerious that lies themselves.

I think the Bible says it was more of a test. God plays a rough game! Look what happened to Job.

By the way, it was God who ordered the sacrifice but it was the angel of the Lord that stopped it. Some theologians suggest that the Angel might have been Christ himself. I don't know about that but it is an interesting thought!

but it wasnt a lie...it was the truth, if he werre to have sacrificed, he would have recieved blessings..since he didnt we will never know!
the fact is he was rewarded for his dedication to his lord..first and foremost!

True, but he is alos a master of half truths - which are more dangerious that lies themselves.
they are worse if you ask me..they confuse more than real lies, becasue you cant tell the difference and it loooks so good!

I think the Bible says it was more of a test. God plays a rough game! Look what happened to Job.
God is a rough houser...but the thought is flesh is nothing..flesh goes and comes, but the source of power the real true meaning and love for God!
forget your wordly possesions when it comes to dealing with God...he doesnt need it..its his anyways he can give it and take away!

By the way, it was God who ordered the sacrifice but it was the angel of the Lord that stopped it. Some theologians suggest that the Angel might have been Christ himself. I don't know about that but it is an interesting thought!

i dont know about that,,,you have some crackpots out there who sometimes you just cant trust to give you the truth!
but if they feel so...then i cant do a ting about it...but the story for what it means stands their strong and hard!

just a quick question. What would happen today if a man wanted to sacrifice his son because he said that is what the Creator told him to do?
