i guess i just responded in a knee-jerk way to mangrove's "speechless" comment, which i found rather condescending to the people of bimini being quoted in the original article being cited. it's hard enough for bahamians to wallow through this complicated mess of a heritage as it is without being called a sellout or short-sighted by someone from the outside that apparently does not understand or appreciate the local community pressures at play.
I read mangroves post in the middle of the night and it made me very angry. I wish he/she would come and live for a year on a family island with no outside income and then just maybe they could appreciate why island people would welcome such a development.

I can and do sympathise with both sides. But as a parent I would like nothing more than for my child to be able to return home to a good paying career on her own island rather than having to be in Nassau.

Everywhere you look in the world, right or wrong, there are people sticking their noses in someone else's business in the name of "saving mother earth". Look here....I agree with saving the environment, but people have to live too!

Furthermore, this is our issue and as a young Nation,I for one am very sensitive to any outsiders trying to influence our destiny, somehow doubting if we are itnelligent enough to fend for ourselves!

Sorry if that seems insensitive or unappreciative to these "righteous helpers" but I make no apology for not wanting your help.
