i guess i just responded in a knee-jerk way to mangrove's "speechless" comment, which i found rather condescending to the people of bimini being quoted in the original article being cited. it's hard enough for bahamians to wallow through this complicated mess of a heritage as it is without being called a sellout or short-sighted by someone from the outside that apparently does not understand or appreciate the local community pressures at play.
I read mangroves post in the middle of the night and it made me very angry. I wish he/she would come and live for a year on a family island with no outside income and then just maybe they could appreciate why island people would welcome such a development.
I can and do sympathise with both sides. But as a parent I would like nothing more than for my child to be able to return home to a good paying career on her own island rather than having to be in Nassau.
