View Full Version : Thoughts and pontifications
praetor 03-08-08, - 09:45 AM You know what really cheeses my crackers?
I was out drinking with my friends last night on Bay St. as I always do on Friday and it came to be about 2 a.m.
We all climbed into a taxi and I instructed the driver to take me to my beach front property on Eastern Rd (the view is amazing).
As we were driving, we came to a stoplight on East Bay St. You know the one that sits at the intersection where Outback Steakhouse is. It crisscrosses between East Bay and the exit point of Potter's Cay.
The light was red and there were two cars in front of us. One in each lane.
What really frustrated me is the fact that they were just sitting there letting their cars idle for seemingly no reason. I mean, I looked to the left at Potter's Cay. Not a car to be seen anywhere. I cocked my head to the right and saw no headlights coming from the area behind Outback Steakhouse.
Not a car for miles on either side and these jerks were just sitting there.
I was filled with a sizzling rage that burned like brimstone doused in burning kerosene.
I mean, why the hell would you sit at a red light if there are no cars coming? Are these people mentally retarded? What are you thinking in that messed up head of yours?
The purpose of a traffic light is to direct traffic in the event that two cars from perpendicular lanes both want to travel across the same intersection. Ergo, if there are no cars other than yours the point of a traffic light becomes moot if only temporarily.
Why are people so stupid? Why have humans become so indoctrinated that they make stupid decisions just because they can't think for themselves?
I wanted to use my bottle of Moette that I had been saving for breakfast to smash their windows in. I would have laughed maniacally as they came out of their cars with a puzzled look on their face, at which point I would have most likely round house kicked the occupants and activated my jet pack to get away to my secret lair and read comic books all day.
But seriously, stop being stupid and waiting at traffic lights at ungodly hours of the morning if there is no traffic!

Um, isn't it the law that if a traffic light is red you are supposed to stop and wait until it changes?
Lurker 03-08-08, - 10:06 AM You forgot to say that you timed them at the light with your Rolex Oyster watch, while sitting in your Bentley, and the gas guage embedded in the Circassian Walnut dashboard was sinking lower and lower. All the while, your consternation was rising, ruining your last $1,000 botox session and the sweat was staining the huge Lazare diamond in the 18 carat gold ring on your finger.

SpamStopper 03-08-08, - 02:29 PM Cause its the law you dumb criminal!! :hammer::hammer:
Id Love some little punk to try that so I could reverse over their little stupid car in my big jeep :D
praetor 03-08-08, - 03:28 PM Sorry guys. It seems that I was still a bit intoxicated. I forgot to finish my post.
I should have also mentioned that we need a change in the law or legislation allowing such a move.
I mean, let's be serious. If you were able to get an aerial view of such a thing, you might be able to understand my point. What I'm saying is, if there's absolutely no cars coming and it was in the dead of night when things have slowed, then what's the problem with being able to go on through?
I believe it's no different than being allowed to turn left on red lights in other foreign countries.

Now you've finished what you wanted to say, I totally agree with you, more so from a safety aspect than anything. It is definitely not safe to be stopped at a traffic light in Nassau in the dead of night, particularly if you are a female traveling alone.

i second that ... when i come into nassau and am driving around at night by myself, i am NOT stopping at an empty four-corner with no traffic for miles :cutie:.
but then again, i don't know about giving some of those nassau drivers any more legal leeway than they already have on those choked roads. your logical assessment of the situation may be someone else's excuse to tempt the fates.

Well perhaps a compromise can be achieved. Make it illegal with certain provisions allowing it to be used.
The driver would bear any and all responsibility for making that decision to go through the light.
If it is found that he was negligent, then all bets are off.

I dont agree, it is more dangerous to run a red light, much more dangerous for others that might be going the other way. I know of 2 persons that near died and spent months in hospital from other people going through the red light after dark cause they thought it was clear to go.
Also, most people on the road at night are intoxicated, so that makes it even more dangerous.
And, if it is that dangerous driving around Nassau at night, then DONT. :)
Night time in Nassau is a big risk, thats just the way it is. Yall realize Bahamian Criminals have no patience right, they wont bother sitting at a traffic light waiting for the right car to turn up, they are coming to you, not waiting for you. :hammer:
You can just as well get kidnapped right outside a Gas Station at night, and it has happened. You can just as well get kidnapped walking out your door at night, and it has happened. Dont blame the Traffic light. If the area you want to travel in is not safe, then dont travel there.
Now that said, what we do need are some Smart Lights, and they could put some of them on blink in certain areas.
At night in Nassau, it seems Green means stop these days. Cause if you dont you could lose your life to some criminal running the red light.
PS. I drive every night in Nassau, have for years, so know exactly what I am talking about.
SpamStopper stops at the red light. :hammer: :hammer:
~*Lovely*~ 03-08-08, - 04:51 PM There were two accidents in 2002/2003 within a few weeks, if not nights, of each other due to people running red lights late at night. In one of them, three people died. In the other one, I remember that someone was in ICU for quite a while. It was rumored that he was brain dead, but he wasn't... Something went wrong with the nervous system though, and he is still experiencing the effects. A law like that would be the cause of more madness, because, just like stop signs, hardly anyone will stop at the traffic lights to LOOK to see if it is safe to go. Then, the issue of the varying definitions of "safe" also exists. Think of all the people who fly out of corners, thinking that they can beat the oncoming car, and don't manage to beat it. Those places that have the RIGHT turn on red laws are places where people actually follow the rules of the road. Nassau definitely isn't one of those!
