With flared nostrils, breathing laboriously, the youth that I was about to dismissed, retorted, "I is a soldier, do what you gat te do and I will do what I gat te do." Some say this may have been a threat. -Perhaps, but I guess when you are in business and have to dismissed a certain levels of people from their employment, one will receive threats a lot. That my friends comes with the trade. But I aint worry about that...what I concern about is this army of his that he supposedly belong to. I have heard this term by a number of youths and some even grown arse adults before: "I is a soldier." Soldier of what? How come so many people want to live this thug life? What is the attraction to it? Anyway, within the heated debate, it was heated, perhaps I let it go to far, me being the superior, but I was gently trying to explain that all of this passion was unwarrented, and that within business, threats and blantant disrespect and disregard for authority should and must not be tolerated. But apparently, due to how I interact with guests, how I dressed, my speech all makes me a sell out. lol, Oh a better word, his words, a f-ing faggot... And can you imagine all of this came out from me reprimanding him for coming late to work. Sighs...Its hard trying to find good help now a days, who respect authority. It seems all one can find are thug wantabes, who crave the thug life. Street women, who constantly looking for opportunity to scheme on the job, working out side deals to make extra change. And Agressive Haitians who, can't speak a word of English, but always demanding more pay, more hours. For petes sake, this Bahamas, man this Bahamas having some serious issues with the youth.

I was in da chinese restaurant on market st. yesterday waiting for my order when here comes running down the street 10 schoolboys in uniform between the ages of 12 to 16, straight into the restautrant, cussing and carryin' on.
as soon as they were all inside I turned to them and said in my loud, dominating voice, "YALL SETTLE DOWN AND STOP YER FOOLISHNESS. BEHAVE YERSELF!". dey was in shock.
den I say loudly " AND WHAT YALL YOUNG BOYS DOIN' USING SUCH FILTHY LANGUAGE? DIDN'T ANYONE EVER TELL YALL YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO CUSS IN PUBLIC? ESPECIALLY IN DA FRONT OF LADIES?!"
I had their full attention by now. I continued, "YALL OLD ENOUGH NOW TA PUT A MAN HEAD ON YALL SHOULDER AND BE MORE MATURE AND RESPONSIBLE, YA HEAR ME!"
I said again, "NOW ORDER YA FOOD AND I DOON WAN' HEAR ANUDDER PEEP OUTTA YALL." one fella had the balls to say to a nex' one, "you like man hey?"
I turned to him and gave him a quick-kill look and said, "STOP DAT NONSENSE TALK. DAS A SILLY TING TA SAY!"
I held my ground standing in the middle of the restaurant with my arms crossed and lookin' each one a dem dead in da eye and they all slowly took seats. I continued, 'YALL NEED DISCIPLINE DAS WHAT!" to which a female customer said to me, "bey Derek, I does beat mine down like man" I held back the laughter.
by the time my order was ready they were all under control and behaving quite nicely. buttcha know what? I think they welcomed the guidance and counsilling. they were indeed happy that some man had taken the time to show them the right way how to conduct themselves. these young boys today are seeking father figures who doon play. all soljas need a commander.
I think they learned sumtin' yesterday.

Wow, I'm at a loss for words ...

Just kidding... I think such reprimand for the youth are great.

We need soldiers to fight the war on social detriment.

Say it again, and louder this time so that everyone who simply is "praying and marching" for a better Bahamas can understand that it is only ACTION on behalf of us men that will get these kids under control.

It is quite ironic that today's youth use military terminology to define themselves, although in their daily actions they completely contradict the principles of discipline which military training would instill in a person.

They are crying out for correction and some semblance of rules and guidelines to follow, but many of them are not getting these needs fulfilled in the schools or in their homes. Therefore they are creating their own "interpretations" of the structure that they need.

Allowing kids to run wild without reprimand or learning the consequences of their actions is detrimental to their development as adults. We have seen this firsthand all over this country.

What you did was commendable.
