Their hearts are in the right place for the most part but their facts are wrong generally

I believe that it appears that this administration is attempting to do a better job then the last, yet, with all the emphasis on environmental issues coming to the forefront, it is not surprised.

I am not saying the last administration was not concerned, perhaps just not educated as such. I believe Ron Pinder had his head in the right place, but with no support.

People only react when they become educated about a potential problem.

Abaco in particular "because my wife is from there and we have a home there"needs to get up to speed a bit concerning environmental issues.I don't mean for it to be anything as ridiculous as the US EPA,but they need to start thinking about saving some of the really prisitine places here.

Of course Nassau is different,it is a city with real city problems and needs to be addressed differently.

The thing is with all the well educated and intelligent Bahamians I have engaged on this site, this would be an excellent forum to plan an agressive but intelligent approach to environmental issues. Most people here seem too savy to get involved in so much of the "save the environment in the name of junk science" that we have in the US.:)

Yes, Nassau the city has its problems, but you forget, Nassau is situate on the Island of New Providence.

Out West, there is so much undeveloped land that so now just being swallowed up. Time to be the watchdog on all the island

Well for me I'm kinda caught in the middle of the fence.

We do have some real issues like

- The quality of living condition for Bahamians esspecially here in Nassau. The amount of bad exhast thrust into the air by undermaintained vehichles, with dump truck, 18 wheelers and jittneys the main killers.

- The simple lack of the enforcement of dumping laws

- The simple lack of competance in regular garbage pick up. FPO you know exactly when you will get you garbage collected rain or shine. In NP and maybe other islands you will get you garbage collected depending on which way the wind blows.

- I'm sure there is something that can be done to reduce the dump fires.

- Respect and due attention to the BNT.

- A concrete policy on how are we going to use our beaches once and for all.

But on the other hand I feel like some of these people think we are not entitled to do what at least needs to be done with the land in this nation for it to develop. Sometimes I get the feeling they would rather us go to live in huts and eat pine cones. Like we have seen any country make it on eco-tourism alone. And to add insult to injury some of them are not from the most shining example of "green" living and running economies on alternative energies and conservation.

There are environmental protests all around the world against anything from flying planes to infustructural improvements, and even what you clothes are made of. Some are taken with varying sizes of grains of salt. Here we take it a little more seriously regardless of what all the facts are, and regardless of whether this country is capable of hadling the impacts. But we need industry somewhere to meet modern human demands.

Like how long are we still going to hesitate on an answer on things like LNG, like building a port, on where we will place another resort? And all of these island nations are faces with the same challenge, of trying to develop in the face of what I think is unbalanced criticism to some countries which hardly has the resources to regulate and regard the basic laws.

I don't classify myself as an environmentalist.....but I deeply am concerned about the amount of environmental degradation taking place in this country.

Environmentalists get a bad rep here because some people picture them as crazy, anti-capitalist (socialist) people who sit around smoking dope and complaining all day.

Some environmentalists work tirelessly to improve out country, while some hurt the environmentalist cause by just complaining and making unreasonable demands. Like everything else in life, there's various extremes: e.g. diehard FNM----middleground FNM----concerned citizen---etc...

Freeport got nothing but endless beaches for the public.
Nassau, thats another story.

What good is a nice environment if people dead from lack of Food and Health safety, not to mention the real thing killing our environment is all the fumes from dirty vehicles and illegal fires.

Can anyone tell me more details and information about the removal of garbage in the country? Do you have any garbage dump or something like that? Or everything is being burned like in Bimini? There is a big dump on South Bimini, I think this is just out of control...another dump area is behind Bimini Bay and this one is being burned. A variety of trash is being burned there...including wood, plastic, metal, styrofoam and other items.

Global Warming is a hoax, period! This has been the coldest winter on record in 100 years, chronicled by record keepers in all nations, NOAA in particular. Although the ice in the North Pole is receding a bit,it is larger and thicker than ever in the South Pole. What seems to be happening is a Global Cooling and most progressive non-political scientist agree that this may be the onset of a cyclical ice age, either mini or major.

they burn it, we smell the burning garbage all the time (even 10 miles away), not to mention daily inhalation of deadly exhaust fumes from gas and diesel vehicles not fit to be anywhere near a road nor a human being. Other day I was out west and the area was just one big cloud of smelly smoke .. you could hardly see in front of you it was so thick, and that was at least a mile from the dump.
