Hey, previously I didn't want to start this topic again but I thought it might be interesting for those of you who still care about the future of Bimini.

First, visit new Bimini Bay website: http://www.biminibayfacts.com I am sure I don't have to tell much about lies about the preservation of ecosystems mentioned there.

Then please visit Shark Trust website http://www.sharktrust.org/content.asp?did=29422 to see the recent response of Mr. Reyes to criticism and also the replies to him. (click on Bimini Bay Resort responds to criticism - Scientists and environmentalists unite in response - March 2008)

You are all welcome to join the discussion and make a contribution! Send your own letter to Mr. Reyes!

No I don't think so. It seems like they all keep aloof. It's unbelievable that Mr.Ingraham has nothing to say although he is included in all e-mail correspondence all the time.

We are waiting for the another response from Mr.Reyes. He really has to show us proofs of environmental studies which should tell that Mosquito Point (the one of the most biologically and economically area of the island) was a "dead zone"! In other words they consider mangrove wetlands being ordinary trees although their website is talking about the preservation and respect for environment! Shame on them...Developers of Bimini Bay are really contradictory in their own opinions and statements.

Well e-mails, letters. It doesn't matter. Simply, he is well informed about Bimini issue but stayed quiet for now. I am not expecting to get response on e-mail from PM, I wanna know when he is able to make a direct statement on Bimini issue...

Well first it would be good to get the people who live in Bimini interested-- they had the PM there for a town meeting and (by all accounts) they did not mentoined Bimini Bay. If the PM came to town and my space where i live is being runied I think a riot and the police were mean to me would not count as much.

I am not making light of what happen to them but maybe someone should brought up bimini bay and it effects on then. Just a thought

Yeah, you're right. However, as I know and what I could hear directly from Biminites they are interested in solving this important issue which really affects their life. The biggest problem on island is the lack of communication, providing information and so on. Furthermore, Biminites would have taken an action sooner but they didn't have a clue about what everything is going on in Bimini Bay side. The people of Bimini have not been kept informed of the decisions made by Bimini Bay Resort. Although Biminites have the right to speak into issues of island they are not allowed to have a say in any of it and that's sad. I assure you that Biminites wish Bimini Bay was stopped at this Phase. Who needs golf course and casinos?? Residents of Bimini even showed their interest in Eco-tourism which is really great. Eco-tourism is surely a fantastic and very friendly way of getting a job in Bimini. Hope this idea will be spread among Biminites. If we get a MPA for Bimini, there will be more job opportunities in the field and I am sure everyone will enjoy this work more than anything else in Bimini Bay Resort. If this project continue in its construction, Biminites will lose their ecosystems and important areas of island which they love and also depend on them.

It would be surely great if PM came to Bimini and did a tour by Bimini Bay. He was on Bimini meeting due to recent Bimini riots, Bimini Bay issue was brought up by several people, even Fabien Cousteau was there...however, Bimini Bay was put in the shade by these riots problems.
Mr.Ingraham was in Guana Cay, the island which has the similar development plan - golf course, casions etc as Bimini has, did tour around and well, he expressed the full support for Baker's Bay project which was quite disappointing for people.

I would really have expected the different attitude on development issues from Ingraham than former PM had. I mean especially the relationship to environment and natural resources which makes Bahamas being so unique and precious in the world. Although, FNM manifesto includes the preservation and protection of wetlands in the Bahamas...it is not the same in a reality.
