"Nurse Jessica Stubbs of the AIDS Secretariat told the Bahama Journal that is number of babies is having treatment and care.
"We have 130 babies infected that are having treatment and care but there are others because if these 130 persons are having sex that means there is a possibility that they are infecting more persons and so once a child is sexually active they need to come and get a HIV test done," Nurse Stubbs said."
.......
"At last count, 5,527 people were living in The Bahamas with HIV and 1,700 living with AIDS, a total of 7,227. More than 3,000 have reportedly died from the disease."

LotusPhoenix 04-05-08, - 03:46 PM When I went to get my AIDS test I was told a problem they had was getting people to come back in two weeks to get their results.
Well, my friend recently went for his, he had to ge back THREE times before the results were ready (its suppose to take 2 weeks it took 4).
How dey expect people to know dey status when dey scared to get the results and den when dey come dey told to come back?
This is very sad, especially since there are ways to protect babies born to AIDS infected women.

My first thought was ONLY 130??
James-aby 04-06-08, - 09:45 PM I am sick of this! We have the best economy in the Caribbean for pity's sake! And yet we have so many problems with matters like this, We seriously need a better healthcare system, if we even have one that is :realmad:.

And morals. We really do lack MORALS in the Bahamas yet LOVE LOVE LOVE to point finger at others while cemetary does grow in our closets!!!!
Tafadhali 04-07-08, - 06:54 PM but it didnt have to be so...these children could have been saved with all those drugs out there that ensure the virus isnt passed from mother to offspring...what a shame...why arent all pregnant mothers tested for thiss disease (hiv/aids) when given their prenatal care? what a shame.

what you mean only...who gave you an mph or phd in public health? what makes you an expert? ...people dnt change.

130 is still way too many.
130 is still way too many.
Agreed! But as we as a people are so (sexually) morally bankrupt 130 is not as bad as it could be.

Yes they do, if they want too!

that's not the point...the point is their are anti-viral drugs that block transmission of the disease from mother to baby...these 130 lives could have been saved...and even so that number is extremely high...someone shouldve been fired...the aids secretariat...the prenatal care physicians/team...someone for not effectively doing their job...in this day and age it should be mandatory for pregnant women to get tested for hiv/aids...this is a travesty.
