One day after his accuser withdrew the rape allegations she had made against him, Minister of Works and Utilities Bradley Roberts thanked those who stood beside him as he weathered a public backlash and negative press that bombarded him over the last three weeks.
“I wish at this time to thank my Prime Minister for remaining resolutely confident that there could be no basis for such a charge against me and along with my Cabinet colleagues, remained steadfast in their support of me,” he said in a press statement released Wednesday afternoon.
“I likewise thank my dear wife and family for never wavering at any moment in their belief that such an allegation could ever be attached to me and from that belief, they too were steadfast in their support.”
Minister Roberts said it would be remiss of him not to thank the constituents of Bain and Grants Town and other well-wishers who sent him words of encouragement “and their commitments to believing in my innocence.”
“It is unfortunate that in The Bahamas the perverted definition of the word ‘allegation’ is to conclude without basis in fact… God is like Tide detergent. He gets the stain out that others leave behind.”
