One of the biggest sellers nowadays amongst our women of color is bleaching products to lighten the complexion. I have seen some girls one day black as the ace of spade and when I see them again they are the same color of a Halloween pumpkin. I had a girl tell me one time she mixes 3 different batches to get her glowing color. Mind you she was not afraid of all of these chemicals combined having an adverse reaction. She just wanted to be bright, even though her knuckles and around her eyes were charcoal black. Then there is the weave, picky head one day Crystal the next day. from 8 inches and up, ya could get the straight looking hair like the Arawaks or the wet and wavy. Are women of color happy with the way they look, I wonder? And of course, I cant forget the store bought contacts that has the dark brown eyes instantly changed to hazel or green ..But I would like to know what our learned men on BI think about this?

Well Gen X I am not a male member of BI, nor am I a woman of colour (at least not on the outside) but the same can be said for a lot of Caucasian women as well except in reverse, they spend all their time either seeking the sun to get a darker tan (and run the risks of skin cancer with it) or apply what is basically skin dye to achieve a darker effect, then those with straight hair have all kinds of chemical and small tight rods applied to make it curly or use heated appliances that damage the hair to achieve a curly look. It just seems to me that we are never satisfied with what the good Lord gave us regardless of what race we are. :)

I am female and cannot stand the fake sh!t....I am as closeto ntural as possible.

I saw a lady that has bleached so much her skin now looks like that of a lizard and she no longer has the desired "bright' color she wanted. They do not seem to care about cancer etc. I understand that they bathe in chlorine bleach! :taped2: Their "toonkies" mustbe rubber as bleach burns my hands when I wash dishes!

Will wait to see what the males have to say!

Girls are made of sugar, spice and artificial coloring...and in some cases artificial nails, hair, eyelashes, and even breasts...

We love dem all tho, no doubt.

In all seriousness, too much makeup is tacky and makes me wonder what blemishes she is hiding under all that "bondo". I prefer natural hair, cause I can pull on it without it coming off in my hands. Nails that are too long leave scratches. And fake boobs don't "feel" right (even though they do look nice when well-proportioned)

I believe women with self esteem/self actualization issues hide behind all the fake stuff....why do they need them? As I have said before Bahamian women need to love the skin they are in. I have seen some women who are bleaching and geez....what man would want to be around them with parts of their face turning green and other parts black as ever....around the eyes especially!

Suga, I had a Bahamian man tell me while I was getting my dreads retwisted, that he LOVES the smell of bleaching cream and he preferred woman who bleached.

Now understand the setting, he is in a natural hair salon, with nothing but natural women, he himself had dreads. Well you know I carry on like dat ting with big ears. I told our stylist to cut his locks off, NOW!!!!!! He prepetrating a fraud and only in dis fa fashion. I had ask him (blue black complexion) what happen to him in his life, that he prefers a woman who would mutilate their body in that way. He told me he does buy bleach for his woman and how you have to mix it with PERM to get it to work quickly.

GYAL, MY STYLIST HAD TO LITERALLY HOLD ME DOWN IN DAT CHAIR, I ALMOST CATCH A CASE IN DERE DAT DAY!

I don't know what's worse, the fact that a man prefers that crap, or that a woman allows that man to dictate to her that she's prettier when she uses bleach (mixed with perm) on her face.

Obviously she has rocks fa brains! I wouldn't say what wrong with the boyfriend...when she has skin cancer I hope she remembers the bleach!

They need to see the woman I saw getting a pedicure. I told the manicurist she need to find another tub cuz my feet een going in dat tub.....her skin looks like a combination of lizard, gator and snake. When someone asked her why her skin was like that she said bleaching!
