For a long time there was talk that much of the conflict and problems we encounter is because we don't know who we are; we have an identity issue. We should teach Bahamian history in our schools, the former PM has been saying for a long time. What puzzles me is WHY DON'T WE JUST DO IT, since many believe this would resolve one of our basic issue!? O Lord, How Long!? At one of my sister's husband funeral in April this year the former PM mentioned again about his hope that Bahamian history would be taught in our schools.. And while driving today, I heard the folks on the Love 97 talk show spoke along the same lines on the same topic.. and I was like, "wow, I just posted re the same subject on BI early this morning!" concerned 07-03-08, - 11:32 PM Doon faget bout the finey Verance an dat lovely black suit what he ga wear ta da olympics! Great Demos 07-04-08, - 01:03 PM Here is a small exmple of the kind of brilliance of Bahamians I observe once in a while. Early one morning, I mistakenly locked my keys in my car, and I knew I could have easily retrieved them if I had an old clothes hanger or a stiff piece of wire. Well there was a guy in an old truck just in front of me whom I asked for help -- he didn't have wire or anything but the way he helped me to retrive the keys was very simple and skillful. So there I was wondering what kind of trade/profession this man was skilled in, thinking he was some kind of engineer or master craftsman. After thanking him, I asked him what kind of work he did.. he told me he was a Security Officer.. :jawdroop: What!? Well, after picking up my jaw off the floor, I wondered seriously WHY or HOW I couldn't have come up with that simple idea MYSELF, having experience in a number of trades and professions.. The Point 07-29-08, - 01:38 PM Brandon Roberts, just one of the members of The Bahamas National Youth Choir has just returned with his choir from attending the World Choir Games held in Graz (pronunced Gratz), Austria, held July 12-22. The competition comprised of 93 countries, consisting of a total of 441,000 highly trained voices...at least that's what many of them thought. From our small Bahamas nation Brandon and his choir emerged with the SILVER MEDAL in the category of Mixed (male/female) Choir Folk and Mixed Choir Classical. A fantastic achievement by any measure. Well done to The Bahamas National Youth Choir but most specifically to BRANDON who now doubt helped seal the deal. |
