parietal_03 01-22-05, - 01:17 PM My guilty indulgences:
I'm a BEEG fan of Prog Rock.
Genesis (Peter Gabriel Era with few exceptions) "Los Endos" baby!
King Crimson (Wetton, Fripp, Bruford Era)
Jethro Tull (sounds like Tony McKay, but it could be the other way around)
Yes (Fragile)
Marillion
Tool (I have issues with the members but I like the music)
Opeth
Zao
Norma Jean
Pink Floyd ("Dogs")
The Mars Volta
Betty "Bebop" Carver
Hatfield & The North
Vivaldi
Bach
Phish
Outkast
The Pharcyde
The Fugees

Give Emerson, Lake, and Palmer a whirl. older classic rock with an artsy feel. Blind Melon, Janes Addiction, lotsa good stuff.
k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e 01-23-05, - 08:20 AM my tastes range out too far.
contemporary metal - system of a down, etc
early motown- the marvalettes especially since they started it
60's rock - the beatles mostly
alternative rock - smashing pumpkins, keane
underground hip hop - Canibus, Jedi mind tricks, Ras kass (nature of the threat drops serious knowledge)
Reggae - Sizzla, Bob marley, etc...(dont really like dancehall)
eventually i will venture into jazz and i'm getting into soul music now but canot see myself delving into pop any time soon.

I deserve to be slapped for not mentioning ELP...I use "Hoedown" to wake up my wife. Turn the volume WAY up!

It seem like almost everybody following fashion nowadays, I mean bands trying to sound each the other music wise. I use to be heavy into Deftones, System of a Down, Rage Against The Machine and EARLY Creed...but I dunno in terms of alternative...now I into more aural music. Like Soundgarden and the first A Perfect Circle album.
But if you like System of a Down, you should borrow Opeth's Blackwater Park from someone and check it out.
I do like everything Burt Bacharach did with Dionne Warwick...Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Seal. Yall should check out progarchives.net
I haven't been looking at much hip-hop beyond hearing Eminem, Nas, JayZ nowadays.
I like anything that is good. My musical tastes run from the Beatles to Bach! But lately I have been listing to a lot of "Classical" rock. But I also listen to Military music, a bit of Country and Western and music from the Far East - an acquired taste! (But I do like the ones that have been tuned to the Western ear a bit better.)

You sound like you may enjoy The MahaVishnu Orchestra. You should check them out at progarchives.com
chancellor 01-26-05, - 10:21 PM I listen to anything besides extreme heavy metal rock and not much reggae. I like alot of soft and alternative rock in particular. linkin Park my favourite. I also listen to alot of classical, orchistrated and symphonic music, mostly anything with strings. And the usual hip hop, R&B and some dancehall and pop.

Cant say I have heard of them before, but they sound like they are more Jazz than anything else. Jazz is one of the few - if only - forms of music I don't "understand." :dgi:

I feel the same way about "Some Kind of Blue" even though it explained it's mission within the liner notes.

Teniel 01-27-05, - 07:18 PM I enjoy listening to Golden Oldies and classic R&B, my favourite group the Stylistics, as well as Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendigrass, The O'Jays, Friends of Distinction, and the Isley Brothers just to name a few.
