I think it starts with you the individual, you can not force education on some 1.

Nah. It has to start with leadership, showing the way and all of what is right. We don't educate ourselves. Education is a process, in which you glean information from persons around you and from things and experiences.

It has to be taken to the next level, by you, but, the system, must work with you in order for you, the individual, to understand what is important to his role in the society.

We have to move forward together.

Hehehe...that's like me and all of my BGCSE's. They were a total wash. I didn't know what the bloody Hebron I was doing.
But, in any event, the course work and curriculum is a serious issue. I'm not saying that we should end social promotion. But, perhaps, social promotion should go with additional class work and attention?

that's what they started doing last summer.
some schools had summer sessions for those at risk kids, and they also offer after school lessons, maybe more puiblicity is needed.

Indeed. THAT, and, not just summer school- but heavier after school attention as well!!

I am not a proponent, of sending and child home for being disruptive indefintely. We should suspend sometimes. But, suspension is NOT a direct punishment to them on many occasions. In fact, they don't want to be in school as much anyways!

That being said, anyone under 17, if they have not finished high school, should not be sent home indefinitely from any institution. Just simply enforce and spend the money, to keep them in LONGER...especially if they are behind in their work.

I disagree with that statement, youmust go to school, so eduation by defnition is forced on you. It is the quality of education in the Bahamas, it is sub par. The method in which education is taught is poor, you can make education interesting to the pupil. The Bahamas has failed for 15 years in education, its about time the entire system is revamped. The Bahamas in many things it does keeps doing what they have done for 20 years thinking its somehow going to get better.

How to increase production? What do we produce?

1. We produce our staples. That which is unique to the Bahamas and Bahamian culture. That way we can at least be self-sustaining. We are too reliant on service industries. When our service becomes less attractive, we still have to import those items we consider staples. So we earn less and buy more. In fact, the more tourists we have the higher the cost of living for Bahamians. Those tourists eat the same food that we do - so the more tourists there are the greater demand for the our food - if these are tourists we are borrowing from, then the greater their purchasing power is compared to ours. So, food in our country becomes cheaper for them and more expensive for us.

2. We produce what others cannot or something they want much cheaper than they can - you know this. What that something is - I don't know. I'm not a scientist. But we're so focused on these tourists and banking - yes, I'm included in that bunch - that we don't encourage scientists and engineers to figure out what resources we are wasting.

You start working for a food processor for about a month, and all of a sudden producing food, is a key priority for all of us....

In any event, this is what people KNEW and still hold onto, in regards to food security- at least. There is no reason why we can't produce for local consumption. And, it does not have to do with foreign agri-firms, subsidizing local farmers or owning local farms.

Marketing is a small issue as well. But, an issue none the less.

That being said, agriculture is not the only thing that boosts productivity- even if this was the end all for boosting wages- even if was a primary cause for productivity. Farm labour jobs, are and have always been, low wage earning jobs for people, with little or no formal education at the mass level. Now, we have management, but, their % labour market share, is very slim and would not put a dent into wage earning per capita.

The labour market, is somewhat distorted in this country. Due to lack of controls on foreign labour. Also, lack of enforcement on labour discrimination- not sexual or race, but, social and political. Some people, think that certain people, don't deserve certain things in this country, and that's due to politricks and social discrimination. Sounds like the Asian caste system in many regards.

So, until we fix the wage and productivity distortion- as well as add value to our resources- wages will continue to spiral downwards.

THAT, and, lack of sychronized education with the labour market.

Actually, the firm I'm with specializes in argi-business. So I've been consulting with food processors a little longer than a month.

I mentioned producing food because it is basic. That's why I put the number 1 next to it - to suggest that if we can't even make our own food then we are hopeless. Think about it. Bahamian food is Bahamian. Why are we importing it. *EVERYTHING* else, you can justifiably import - but food that is unique to us...should be the last thing we import.

So....before you attempt to tell me what I'm saying - and start another dickswinging contest that you'll again lose - shut the f**k, and understand what I'm saying.

Good for you!

Tell that to government. So far, they have done nothing to support this idea. As much of a basic and straight forward issue it is.

I can't begin to tell you how agriculture has been set back, even just recently, for years to come in this town. We can do some things, but things have become allot more difficult.

We are not showing true care and attention into the matter. If we were, Larry Cartwright would be singing certain tunes and notes. And, he would have a serious technocrat, at his side, when ever he speaks to these issues.

Think about it. Bahamian food is Bahamian. Why are we importing it. *EVERYTHING* else, you can justifiably import - but food that is unique to us...should be the last thing we import.
Mangoe's and pine apple's as well as tomatoe's and oranges.

I never said that I did NOT understand what you were saying!!!
I never marginalized it either- just said that your new focus, has shown you the light on something that was patently obvious!

Tis all.
