Two men were hauled before a lower court on Friday for allegedly assaulting and threatening to harm 17-year-old Theodore Knowles, the son of convicted drug smuggler Samuel "Ninety" Knowles.
Nehru Newton, 33, along with Clarence A. Gray, 36, of Tregalon Gardens, were also arraigned on two counts of possession of unlicensed firearms, two counts of possession of ammunition, one count each of assault with a deadly weapon and threats of harm. The court heard that on Tuesday, April 22, the pair were found in possession of a silver and black Lorcin pistol with five live rounds of ammunition and a black Ruger 9 mm pistol with 8 live rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
The men were formally charged before Magistrate Carolita Bethel in court number eight.
Newton had just recently testified in a Florida court against Samuel "Ninety" Knowles.
Netwon and Gray pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded in custody at Her Majesty's Fox Hill Prison, until next week Friday when a bail hearing is expected to be heard.
Newton tried to convince Magistrate Bethel to let him out on bail saying he had only arrived back in the country a week ago after being deported from a US federal detention center, where he was freed after giving testimony against Samuel Knowles.
However, Magistrate Bethel said a check had to be made with US authorities.
Newton was released early from a Florida prison in March 21. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison on January 4, 2002. He had his sentence reduced by 40 percent to reflect the assistance he had provided to prosecutors.
