"Bahamas Chamber of Commerce President Dionisio D'Aguilar is urging business owners not to resist robbery attempts while they are in progress, and to put systems in place to make their establishments less attractive to armed robbers.

D'Aguilar's comments came in response to the shooting death of a patron of the Subway restaurant on Madeira Street in New Providence Saturday afternoon, when an off-duty officer and some of the restaurant's patrons attempted to wrestle a sub-machine gun away from a would-be robber.".....

I agree with him - if it is just money they want. No amount of money, particularly when it is not yours, is worth dying for.

It takes tremendous nerve and skill to disarm a person. Most of us are not up to it. Even the cop at Subways could not do it.

It can be done but as I understand it the guy had a full auto fire arm. All he had to do was hold the trigger down and the clip would empty. The cop must have known that. He must also have known that in close quarters - like Subways is - firing a gun almost guarantees someone will be hit. The cops (I hope) must have had good reason to tackle him. Also only two shots were fired so I guess the cop got it away from him, I guess.

I wonder how the cop feels today - not so go I would think. I feel bad for him too.

I say shoot em if you can. Any business, that can boast at least a turn over of 2-3k a week, has enough money, to hire a security guard- or, know someone who can shoot a shotgun!

Its about time we get real in this town. Arm some security officers and put some in plain clothes, to protect businessmen and women.

While I won't haggle with a robber either, but let's protect our businessmen. If they can't thrive, we can't thrive. Its just that simple!

only if they are insured...small businesses tend not to have that spare money to put insurance on their earning...they too busy worry how they going to pay the staff and light bill at the end of the month.

If they are covered. You have to take out a policy...they will have to estimate how much funds are in the shop daily and a premium will be given based on this. The banks' have this type of insurance in place. They also insure monies being transported from one brancj/bank to the next!

A lot of businesses however don't do this. They take out the minimum some don't even tske out liability insuranc for employess or customers!
