View Full Version : a good question
Vicky 01-27-05, - 06:43 AM Why do you believe the Bible is the ultimate word of God the Creator.
It is a very deep question please don't referance the Bible to answer the question.

Can't be done! The only "proof" that the Bible is the word of God is the Bible itself.
However, one can say that the convictions of one's own heart lead one to believe it is, but that could be said of any Holy Book to which its followers subscribe.

I asked why not for proof.
What is it that make people believe the Bible is the ultamate word of God/ the Creator.
There are many holy books claiming to be the word of God/ the Creator. The Torah and Quran are just 2.
bsmbahamas 01-28-05, - 06:24 PM perhaps if you read more than the words in red - and accepted them as God's word, you would feel the same way.
besides 'you know' that christianity is nothing more than a frankenstein of borrowed religions and pagan practices ...
christianity does not harm people, it is people who don't want to follow the rules of christianity that object to it.
simply put we believe it is God's word - you don't, and you don't have to.
good luck trying to convince us that christianity is evil and perhaps should be abolished.
you want something that christians can't give you, therefore since we can't bend our relgion to your wants our religion is bad.
c'mon, christians don't stop you from doing what you want to do, we don't have a right to - just do what you want and leave the christians alone.
the government makes the rules that you *must* live by, change them and you win automatically. christianity is just an alternative set of rules adopted by your government.

christianity does not harm people, it is people who don't want to follow the rules of christianity that object to it. You mean like Christians them selves Look this is not my question your opinion of me and my faith means nothing to me not 1 bit.
simply put we believe it is God's word - at least that is a response to my question. But it explains nothing. Its such a simple question. Don't know why you ran on with this other stuff. Let me rephrase my question so you might understand it. Why do you believe the Bible is the ultimate word of God the Creator and not the Quran or other Holy writings? you don't, and you don't have to.
good luck trying to convince us that christianity is evil and perhaps should be abolished. Never did I say that never. I am surprised you did not bite your tongue (sorry mash your fingers).
Christanity as it is/has been practiced is not the Christianity Christ taught.
you want something that christians can't give you, therefore since we can't bend our relgion to your wants our religion is bad. and the world is flat
c'mon, christians don't stop you from doing what you want to do, we don't have a right to - then why do you try to influence the government if you don't have the right to????? just do what you want and leave the christians alone. Oh yes thats right Christians are never worng and should never be told that they are wrong. Burn you lefthanded witch burn. OOopps
the government makes the rules that you *must* live by, change them and you win automatically. christianity is just an alternative set of rules adopted by your government.
Rizzo 01-29-05, - 02:44 PM Vicky, it's amazing how you dwell on past events done by HUMANS who are known to make mistakes. Especially after some have apologized for events which were wrongfully practiced.
You know who you remind me of.....people with anti-semetic views on the Jews. Those who believe that Jews in the world today are guilty of crucifying Jesus 2,000 years ago.
This topic was discussed in another forum already "Prove the Bible is the word of God"... All this forum is, is a re-worded question. Haven't we stretched this out long enough? And I have posed the question before into the Quran being the word of God etc, this is just the same issue all over again.
Just because a homosexual rapes someone I know, or because I know homosexuals who prey on young men, does that mean I can stereotype homosexuals forever based on what a few did? the answer is no. This does not however change my opinion that homosexuality is unhealthy and unnatural. However, I do not judge all homosexuals alike, just as you seem to judge all christians.
Like I said before and you avoided the question, Rastafarians, muslims and other religions also despise homosexuality, however I have never seen you press the issue with their beliefs.....it seems you have a personal problem with christians only.
Simply put, quit dwelling on the past and look more towards improving the future by expressing qualities and views which you think support the issues of homosexuals. And drop this topic...it's boring!
Vicky 01-29-05, - 08:53 PM Vicky, it's amazing how you dwell on past events done by HUMANS That is very true I will not let up on people who will sweep lives under a rug and try and claim there is no possible way they could be mistaken again. who are known to make mistakes? Especially after some have apologized for events which were wrongfully practiced.

I have answered this question before let me do it again.
1 The religions you mentioned above all stem from Judaism.
2 There are many cultures that accept homosexuality as a normal part of daily life. Sorry if you have never looked into it. Many of the cultures that accepted homosexuality were destroyed by Christians on the tip of a sword and at the end of a gun.
3 Some still live on. And can even be seen to this day in the Northern Native American Indian.
4 CG even responded from a Buddhist point of view.
5 I even posted links that prove even in Christianity there were same sex unions
In reference to Rasta’s I heard Dion Hanna on a talk show one day. H even said homosexuals should have equal rights. He just will not have homosexual acts under his roof because it’s against his faith.
Simply put, quit dwelling on the past and look more towards improving the future By understanding the past you can plan a future. by expressing qualities and views which you think support the issues of homosexuals. And drop this topic...it's boring!
Asking for proof is very different in asking why.
Why does someone believe in the Quran and not the Bible? Why does some 1 believe in the teachings of Buddha and not the Bible? not picking on CG.
Why is some one Hindu and not Christian? and vice versa
The question is very different from proof.
Rizzo 01-30-05, - 02:40 PM Vicky let me ask you something....what you you stand to gain from the responses to this question? What exactly are you looking for?
Great Demos 01-30-05, - 08:08 PM Vicky, when I read Rizzo's post, I wondered if you were going to take his advice and leave off those kinds of questions, 'cause to me, what he said made great sense, but that's only me!
But I said to myself, no, Vicky is just going to carry on with this subject, much of which has been talked to death on other threads!
One thing I have noticed is that many times persons would give you good answers and explanations re your questions, and a few weeks down the road you would ask the very same questions as if you did not see the answers, or whatever!
Whether you have a legimate gripe or not, continuing to focus and dwell on the past is not doing anyone any good. All these kinds of things about left-handed people and witches, etc, you are always talking about, as old as I am, even I did not know or heard about them!
Could well be that some of the young people on this forum might wonder what on earth you are talking about!? You can't blame the Christians of today for things which happened a thousand or more years ago!
This is just a friendly advice, but I believe that if you continue with these antiquated incidents over and over, you are going to reach a point where no one will be responding to you. Sometime ago I had planned not to respond when you talk about religious matters. When you discuss other subjects, that's fine, 'cause you usually make good sense when you talk on other subjects.
Maybe you should thank bsm (especially) and Rizzo for their patience in discussing religious matters with you for such a long time!
Vicky 01-31-05, - 11:26 AM Vicky, when I read Rizzo's post, I wondered if you were going to take his advice and leave off those kinds of questions, 'cause to me, what he said made great sense, but that's only me! I am asking why you believe not for proof. Most all religions have their own proof in their Holy writings. What I am asking is why do you and other Christians believe the Bible to be the word of the Creator. I ask you and other Christians not to use the Bible as a reference because it’s like other Holy writings and gives it own proof.
I simply want to know what is it that makes you believe the Bible is the ultimate word of the Creator.
It is a very deep and personal question.
That right many do give good answers but a few weeks down the road on other threads they post a contradiction to the answer they gave me. Example when BSM was posting about the lottery and gambling, He opposed it left right and center. Even referred to "sacred money". But on another post he has no problem in gambling on pool games. He says he has no problem taking someone "sacred money" if they bet it on a pool game with him. That is hypocrisy in my books. I will not let BSM (or anyone else) think he can post double talk here.
Whether you have a legitimate gripe or not, continuing to focus and dwell on the past is not doing anyone any good. All these kinds of things about left-handed people and witches, etc, you are always talking about, as old as I am, even I did not know or heard about them!
Could well be that some of the young people on this forum might wonder what on earth you are talking about!? This is good because then they will ask questions and not just believe because people tell them to. You can't blame the Christians of today for things which happened a thousand or more years ago! I in no way blame the Christians or anyone else of today for the mistakes of the past. However some of the post I see the people posting them don't think they could be mistaken. They feel they are right just as the Christians felt they were right. And that is the flaw that is why when I see that flaw I bring up the reminder. If they end some of their posts of their interpretation/beliefs/feelings with "I could be wrong" or "this is what I believe" I would not need to remind them and the people that read their post they could be wrong.
They seem to post with the same arrogance that the Christians had when they would murder in the name of Christ.
This is just a friendly advice, but I believe that if you continue with these antiquated incidents over and over, you are going to reach a point where no one will be responding to you. Great Demos so you are suggesting that when people post on religious matters and say ex. Brown is the same as blue because they begin with the same letter and it's a color. I should say nothing. That is the problem today we don't say anything. Perfect example was the Gay cruise protest. Many here say it was wrong but they did not come out there and say it. How much better would it have been to set up tables in Rawson sq. and let those that wanted to lean more (of the version of Christianity that many Bahamians practice) come and talk and let the rest go about their business. Sometime ago I had planned not to respond when you talk about religious matters. That is up to you Great Demos you seem to be such a spiritual person. Just because we do not see eye to eye on something’s does not mean I do not value your input. I value BSM and Rizzo's input even though some times they try to belittle my faith. When you discuss other subjects, that's fine, 'cause you usually make good sense when you talk on other subjects.
Maybe you should thank bsm (especially) and Rizzo for their patience in discussing religious matters with you for such a long time! or may be they should thank me???
Vicky 01-31-05, - 11:29 AM Vicky let me ask you something....what you you stand to gain from the responses to this question? What exactly are you looking for?
To understand why you and others believe the Bible is the unlimate word of the Creator. There are many Holy writings that claim the same thing why don't you and other believe them instead.

Ok Vicky, seems we are understanding each other better. I think I am gradually understanding why Rizzo and bsm are having problems to see where you are coming from.
The Bible is not an easy book to understand. I don't think they are belittling your faith. They are trying to explain their faith to you and you are trying to explain your faith to them.
I don't quite recall, but I might have mentioned this before on a previous post when I tried to get to the bottom of this conflict, and you could be aware of it also, namely, that a Christian accepts and believes the WHOLE Bible as God's word. And when someone takes bits and parts out of it and accepts those bits and parts, and rejects other parts of the Bible, I think thet sounds really crazy to a believer! A Christian would feel like such a person is really mixed up or something. Bear in mind, I am not saying this mindset is right or wrong, I am just saying how I know most Christians are taught!
So now when a Christian notices someone is "mixed up", he will think the person is "lost" and needs salvation. And he is COMMANDED in a number of places in the Bible to lead such a person to Christ! 'Cause the Bible says God will hold the Christian responsible if the person is not saved. Now I believe this is one of the biggest problem which causes the Christian to seem to be arrogant. They would try to speak to you with confidence and authority to win you over -- they can't afford to be percieved as being weak!
But what I think Christians should do in this regard is what I heard a pastor said just last week, that is, to take time and become a friend to the person you want to lead to Christ! That makes sense.
There are plenty things in the Bible we don't understand, and some of us don't even try to understand! My church emphasises holiness and Bible studies, but almost every Sunday I attend (I haven't missed a Sunday morning service in the last 7 years), I see some things done and said that I don't believe Christ would be pleased with!
Thanks for saying that I seem very spiritual (hope I am), but as I said before, about 7 or maybe 8 years ago I made up my mind strongly to try the best I can to live for the Creator. All those years when I used to do all those wicked things and indulge in habits which were hard for me to lick, I would not even attend church. I used to tell others that I don't plan to trifle or play with God! I did NOT want to be going to church pretending to serve Him and still doing those wicked things! Most likely many do this, and I would not fault them! The same Holy Spirit who convicted me would convict them, hopefully!
But I thank God that I have given up those habits, etc, one of which few men would give up. I would just like to hold my head up high and walk in humility and integrity when the time comes for me to meet my Maker.

A Christian would feel like such a person is really mixed up or something. Bear in mind, I am not saying this mindset is right or wrong, I am just saying how I know most Christians are taught! These so called Christians need to take all of the laws in the Bible and live by them. If not they are doing just as I do take parts and reject the rest.
Good example the Bible condones slavery why don't Christians???
The Bible states how to grow food and how to harvest it why don't Christians?
The Bible states how to build the roof of a house why don't Christians build their roofs as the law in the Bible states. I can go on but I won't. I will not let a hypocrite tell me how I must live. That is a very poor excuse Greta Demos very poor in deed, not said to offend you.

Great Demos 02-01-05, - 10:03 AM Hi Vicky, I told you repeatedly, you are NOT going to get perfect people in THIS world! To me this is what you seem to be looking for when you tell people or other Christians they are not following all the rules in the Bible. It just aint going to happen! Christ was/is the only person capable of doing this. And according to the Bible, the only time humans will be able to live sinless is in the next age when those who are accepted into the Kingdom are given their resurrection bodies.
This is like another bone of contention (ie what I just stated), that would cause a conflict with you and other Christians. They know they have all sinned and are still sinning. The Bible says that. The thing is that they are TRYING THEIR BEST (or at least SHOULD BE) NOT TO SIN OR BREAK BIBLE RULES! That is the long and short of it. I can't break it down any simpler than that!
Take for example St Paul (don't be offended 'cause I know he is not one of your favourite persons). Most Christians believe he was the greatest Christian who ever lived. And despite all the wickedness he did before he met the risen Christ, when I read his epistles, I also believe he was the greatest!
But do you know what Paul said in one of his epistles. He said in effect that the sinful things he did NOT want to do, he found himself yearning to do them, and the good things he knew he should do, he found himself not wanting to do them! He felt wretched about this inner conflict!
So if the great St Paul had a great struggle to live a holy life back then when there was most likely less distractions than we have now, how can you expect the "lesser" Christians of today to be so holy!?
Please now don't say you don't expect them to be perfect, etc, but you just don't want them to be a hypocrite -- Please don't say that, because as I explained before they are NOT trying to be a hypocrite -- they are just trying to help, even though sometimes they may go about it in the wrong way and not really mean it or even be aware of it!
Then, too, The Bible talks about "rightly dividing the word" (2 Tim 2:15). In studying the scripture we have to 1) find out who is speaking. 2) Find out who the scripture is speaking to, whether to the Jews, the Gentiles or the church. All the Bible is for the church, but not all the Bible is about the church. That is why we can't identify with some of the Old Testament scriptures today, some of which were guidelines for those days.
With respect, if you continue with that kind of negative way (or what may be percieved to be negative), even if you are right, mark my words, the conflict between you and the other Christians will never end. Not me now, but THEY are going to feel that you just can't be pleased no matter what!
Vicky 02-01-05, - 10:50 AM Hi Vicky, I told you repeatedly, you are NOT going to get perfect people in THIS world! To me this is what you seem to be looking for when you tell people or other Christians they are not following all the rules in the Bible. It just aint going to happen! Nothing wrong with Paul he just is not Christ. His writing are just that his writings. I have no problem with those that want to follow Paul. But don't tell me I should just because his writing are in the Bible.
But do you know what Paul said in one of his epistles. He said in effect that the sinful things he did NOT want to do, he found himself yearning to do them, and the good things he knew he should do, he found himself not wanting to do them! He felt wretched about this inner conflict!

I am not being negative with you Great Demos. It’s not about pleasing me it’s about following the rules that they profess to follow.
He with out sin cast the first stone.
Take the dirt out of your eye before you try to take the spec out of someone else’s.
Treat other as you your self want to be treated.
So then what you are saying is I should do as they tell me no matter how wrong I see it to be?? I should let them pick and choose which rules in the Bible I should follow and I should not pick and choose the rules for my self???
I should do as they tell me to do because they claim to follow the Bible when in fact they do not???
Sorry Great Demos it will never happen. I will not let Christians condemn me because when they do they have not taken the dirt out of their eye first. I will not let then cast stones of condemnation at me and say nothing. I will not let them treat me differently than they them selves want to be treated.
When I say I in the above paragraph I mean all who they would be outcast just because they are different. This is not said with any hostility, as I know you can't see emotion in text.
