A Baptist minister was granted $70,000 bail after he was charged with more than 30 counts of stealing that amounted to over $180,000 in cash.
Floyd Jones, 66, of Westridge Estates, pleaded not guilty to 36 counts of stealing by reason of employment when he appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez.
Jones is a minister at Zion City South Beach Baptist, where B. Wenith Davis is the senior pastor.
It is alleged that between March 16, 1999 and June 10, 2005, Jones stole a total of $188,675.80 from Armored Express Bahamas Limited and Security Services Bahamas, Stapledon Gardens.
He also allegedly stole:
* $102,749.47 between March 16 and June 9, 1999;
* $19,067.83 in 2000;
* $10,032.55 in 2001;
* $35,701.33 in 2002;
* $16,124.62 in 2004 and;
* $5,000 in 2005.
The largest amount allegedly stolen in one day over the seven-year span was $17,156.18, on April 11, 2002. The least amount allegedly stolen in one day was $2,000, on April 15, 1999.
As the chief magistrate read off each count, Jones stood in the courtroom, his arms clasped in front of him, and softly pleaded not guilty, shaking his head from side to side.
Prosecutor Althea Potter did not object to bail and noted that Jones was on $50,000 bail.
Gomez granted the pastor an additional $70,000 bail with two sureties.
The chief magistrate also ordered that the minister report to the Carmicheal Road Police Station every Saturday before 6 p.m.
Jones was represented in court by attorney Ruth Bowe-Darville.
He is expected to return to court nine, Nassau Street, on May 20.

From the Guardian headline you would think that he is accused of stealing form the church. Even the body of the article is not entirely clear on the details.
If this is true, then so is the adage: 'Erryone who cry Lord, Lord eeen gat Him in dey heart!'
