Oh ok thanks, I didn't know.
I was under the mistaken impression that Crown land was free, (or at least sold/given at a reduced rate). Who appraises this land? Is that why there is a holdup, in that no one has appraised the value of the land for sale? Also, is this the same as commage land?
Crown land is not free, I know Bahamians who were squatting for more than 40 years actually got their deeds in Andros and paid next to nothing for the land. Some people also got it free. I believe the biggest delay is waiting on the surveyor. He is like Santa, sometimes you see him once a year and he could spend one day or a few hours.
Government appraises this land and takes into consideration, the fact that you have developed the land.
Commage land or as we call it Generation Property is deeded land
(was brought, owners actually have the deeds from way back when) A lot of families in the family islands have these lands, they said the land cannot be sold or mortgaged. Once you can prove that you are blood relative to the owner, you can build on it, but still cannot sell.
Generation property does cause big family confusion. God bless the child that has his own.
My paternal grandmother left a lot of property in Green Castle Eleuthera, I does call it politics because it is one long drama to get a piece.
