Hey Mr. HI, what about Guana Cay Reef?
See if we can use this statement for something. It's probably not meant serious from his side cause we know very well what is going on in Guana Cay and Bimini

Hey Mr. HI, what about Guana Cay Reef?
One year of symbolic, no practical action taken, b.s. is absolutely sad below pathetic.
When my father was young, during the early 1960's, he could walk knee or hip deep and gather as much crawfish and conch as wanted. Now he has to travel miles off-shore to get any crawfish or conch. Bahamas has been overfished for many years now: we need conservation and then some!!
mangrove 05-10-08, - 02:30 PM This is probably typical. The proclamation is something similar to FNM propaganda where lots of promises in regards to the environment were mentioned but no one of these points is being implemented from the side of the government.
seducer 05-11-08, - 02:46 PM The PM is an avid fisherman and should have an appreciation for the reefs. Henows how far you have to go to look for fish these days.
MissC 05-11-08, - 04:36 PM You're absolutely right...he does know. But he can ignore it. He doesn't need to fish. It's way too easy for him to overlook what he knows when he can afford to buy all the fish he wants, or pay for fishing time...he can easily pay for all day charters to his heart's content. He is ignoring the important things that will sustain this country in favour of small dimpled balls. If he needed to fish it would be a different story. His signing the Year of the Reef is like Anna Nicole's Dr signing the "Year of the Pschycologist".
It would have been more appropriate if he had signed the "Year of the end of the Reef"..........or just called it "same old same old political propoganda year"
mangrove 05-12-08, - 04:59 AM Ow, that's really nice that he does fishing...but it doesn't have to mean that he is more conservative to coral reefs. If he was a real fisherman who understands the difficult cycle in the nature, food webs and environmental conditions he would certainly be the first man who would stands for the higher protection of marine ecosystems in the Bahamas. New developments are degradading the environment and he doesn't care although it has a negative impacts directly on fishery.

Stop knocking the man, ha has a boatt and I have been fishing with him. You cannot throw cans and beer bottles out on his boat. At least he knows that much.

Are we now at the point where we celebrate this?

At least it is a start, alot of people throw garbage in the sea.

No, it is not a start, and the fact that many people do it should not lower our standards. He is the leader of the country. much more is expected than to know he shouldnt throw garbage in the sea.

Much more is expected of the people who make a living from fishing and degrade the reefs with bleach and other foreign objects. They dump their garbage and then complain about how far they have to go for fish. The casual boaters do the same. we need to start locking up people for this. He has set an example for me and I am proud of that fact. I am not an FNM, but we have been fishing numerous times and I respect that fact about him. It is a start and he may morph into a full respect for the environment some day.

Yes those too.
I anxiously await the appointment of a minister responsible for the environment on July 1st 2008 so I can ask him/her about this.
