If Perry Christie is still leader of the PLP, and the FNM's job approval rating is poor leading up to the 2012 election, does a third political party stand a chance of supplanting either of the 2 current leading parties as the new major opposition party in Bahamian politics?

With Instant Runoff Voting, perhaps, but still only a slim chance in the near future. As things stand, unlikely.

Mind you, strange and unexpected things happen. I never thought to see the Berlin Wall come down in my lifetime. I never thought to see the PLP lose in my lifetime, both happened. So, you never know.

Still I would net expect to see even a respectable showing by third party or independent candidates in the next election.

1) Cassius Stewart - Bahamas Democratic Movement
OR
2) Dr. Dexter Johnson - Bahamas National Party

Dr. Johnson nor Stewart are not ready for political success.Both of them,they are not doing anything noteworthy that will convenience the voters that they can manage the economy. Campaigning a year before the election will not cut it.

If PC is not the leader of the PLP in 2012, you can bet your bottom dollar that the PLP will remain in opposition!! IMO.....

Actually, if the FNM keep going like they seem to be now, I think the PLP might have a better chance of winning with a new leader and lots more new blood.

The FNM are going to face similar issues soon themselves.

PC will not be the leader of the PLP.
Having said that, no a 3rd party will not have any viability in the Bahamas. The electorate isnt big enough, politically educated enough, and is far to loyal to their current parties. This has been reviewed, analyzed andd evaluated many many times, and I dont think it will ever happen.

I agree no 3rd party will survive, but if a 3 rd party is form and the leaders have a solid and workable plan and get it out to the people,god will do the rest soon you will see this country will fall in such bad state, the so call loyal parties supporters will start to see and feel for a change.

If the leaders of that 3rd party continue to delivered a strong and vibrant message that is in tune with the present time,1 by 1 they loyal supporters will start to listen and eventually third party will begin to grow. either the plp or fnm 1 of them will become history.

It is not apathy that will result in the next political revolution. It is the exact opposite. It is the few who believe there is a better way, the few who are motivated to make a difference, the few who are willing to make sacrifices to see it happen. This few will reform a party from the inside out, revolutionalizing what the party stands for, energizing the populous. Tha twill be the next political revolution. The revolution has started.

History has taught us that "those few" who attempt to "change" things from the insides are uaually rearguards who has designs on "gettin" their share.

Normally they come with words and ideals such as "move back to the core ideals of the party. . .which we all know that life never "moves" back to ideals of nothing! That's the nature of people. . .we don't ever go back. . .power is never returned to a conquered people. . .internally or externally! They must take in order to produce radical changes. . .and again history has taught us that it has to be taken from without. . .or you just get more of the same!!

This was promised by pindling and crew, Free PLP, BDP, NDP, FNM, New PLP and every other political parties this side of heaven and for as long as man inheretred this earth!! None has delivered any real changes until the old guard was dismanteled completely! None whatsoever. . .not a one!!!

Therefore, the present PLP and FNM cannot be anything else but what they are right now. . .and anybody who promise to take it back to the ole ideals witout killing by the roots of any "power based" influences in high places is just talking azz!!! He/she is either deluded or is a schemeing politician who is looking to get his/her hands into that perverbial cookie jar we always hear about! Even though some like HI tried. . .like mercurary, the pieces just eventually congregate back into a messy whole! And God knows HI has and will continue to pay!!!! Even he tende to rock the cart just enough to get little changes, but not enough to screw-up his world!

You are wasting your time with that "I will take it back to the old idaels crap" . . .you are not prepared to suffer the kind of consequences it will take to revolutionize this political animal we have forged over the last 50 years or so! 1. court every kid in this country 13-25. That group is your voting block in 2012.

2. After school programs,community centers, scholarships up the wazoo, summer camps...winter break camps....

3. Borrow money and build 2 state of the art communtiy centers in Nassau staffed from 3-7pm M-Sat...

4. Have computers an internet cafe and solid role models to offer classes to those kids. Put another in FPO and a smaller one in North Andros and Abaco. THat's 90% of the seats in the HOA right there for ya!

5. Attend every function and box knock.

6. Hire or attach to your party a press agent and spin doctor. Get on every talk show and in every paper at LEAST TWICE A WEEK!



7.Stay out of the PLP/FNM foolish talk. Your answer to those questions should be "Perry/ Hubert WHO?"

8.Stay above the political fray and help the people at their level of need. You really don't have to give away a whole lot. Deal with the kids. Parents LOVE people who are helping out their kids.

Over 50% of the Bahamas electorate is under 45. Win the youth vote and you can RIGHT your OWN ticket in the HOA.

10 Million will do it. A good accountant to make sure your funds aren't pilfered is important. They could make back that 10 million in less thatn one year as the governing party.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. If da BDM was serious, they would have a full slate of candidates ready to go by the end of this year.
