slambam 05-12-08, - 10:51 PM Forget the tourists, today is a MAJOR beach today. Can you imagine all the kids and families around at the time who had to witness that?!
THANK YOU for those comments. We need to stop worrying about how the tourist feel and start to worry how we as a people interact with each other. We need solid long term solutions to this problem and the government needs to lead the way.
I place blame on this incident and the many others which occur in this manner because we do not take serious measures to save us from our selves. On a major beach going day, we should have complete police security on all our beaches to ensure the majority of law abiding citizens can go out and enjoy a family outing. These days we allow hordes of individuals to congregate on beaches and parks and dispence alcohol and play loud offensive music to the disturbance of the majority. We do not protect our citizens and we allow these events to occur under the guise of people having fun. I would sue the police/ government if I was in this situation.
One on the responsibilities of government and its agencies is to maintain and improve the quality of life of the citizens of this country. Ours is slipping away on a daily basis.:sparky:
proudplp 05-12-08, - 10:51 PM Does anyone here feel that Bahamians should be banned from P.I. unless they are there for work only?
yes BAN THEM!!!!

well said!
proudplp 05-12-08, - 10:53 PM the government needs to say something asap. any types of murders around tourism areas especially on holidays is not good for us and with crime out of control lets pray good we don't lose tourist after this. we need to start hanging now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why you doon try and tell ya gubman WHO DON"T CARE that hey buddy.
John Doe 05-12-08, - 10:53 PM yes BAN THEM!!!!
Well Muddow, Where you been hiding, ya tink HI would consider dat, I still have faith in ma Bahamian People but man, was gern on wit my Bahamian People man?
Native Stew 05-12-08, - 10:55 PM Like I say, it would be a little tricky to do that because the tourist are also allowed to drink on the Beaches. That could cause some discrimination issues, what you tink?
I meant for all. tourist don't HAVE TO drink on the beach. they can do it back at the hotel. and drinking and the sea is a bad mix. very dangerous. accidents can happen. people can drown.
proudplp 05-12-08, - 10:56 PM Here is my question to everyone, do you all feel that the Police should be on all public beaches with dogs, Mobile patrol units, metal detectors etc????
yes.
ahh the power of alcohol. ban drinking on all public beaches.
Not that not drinking on public beaches would bother me that much as I am no big drinker, but what good would such a ban do?
Isn't littering on public beaches banned already? We see all the good that does.
Is public drunkenness legal on the beaches now? Or anywhere else for that matter? I thought not, but perhaps I am mistaken.
Point? Another law against something which we will not enforce is not likely to help in any major way.
all the best,
drew
YorickBrown 05-12-08, - 10:59 PM I will tell you why....We have turned our back on God!!! We are teaching our children that things tell people who you are...We tell them that there is no God but when they do wrong we want to tell them to follow the things from the bible!!The Bahamas is NOT a theocracy and RELIGION is not necessary for a person to have a strong sense of right and wrong.
As well, you are inadvertently insulting other religions that do not believe as you do, the Muslim, the Buddhist, the Jew, the Wiccan all have their viewpoints on the matter as well. Their interpretations of a higher power do not match yours, so are they any more wicked than some of the heathens who grace the halls of your churches?
Responsibility, respect, honor and stability can be found outside of the parameters of religion, therefore your statements are null and void.
Is every thread going to become religion-based from here on in? People, keep your belief systems and other related propaganda in the religion threads.
John Doe 05-12-08, - 10:59 PM Juss fa da record, my Bahamian peeps are juss as important ta me as ma tourist peeps, we have to be careful to class Bahamians as second class citizens because the countries where our tourists come from are also experiencing the same issues we are. We need to promote peace in every area whether it be Downtown, Kemp road, P.I., Chippingham, Da Bottoms, or anywhere in the Bahamas, but to say that the Govt needs to focus especially more in preventing crime in the tourists areas is not a good message because is says that where we locals lives are not priority.

we really have to worry how the tourist feel. dont forget the bahamas is not the only country that offers sun, sand and sea. when incidences like this happens 1 of our visitors will tell 10 of their friends and family not to visit the bahamas. and with the power of the internet, camera phones and youtube this could reach millions and really affect us. i am a member of a travel social network similar to myspace and facebook. and i talk about the bahamas all the time to over 100 of my travel friends. now i hope this incident it doesnt reach there.
i say to the govt that they better crack down on the alcohol and smoking in public places. these fellas will destroy this country in a heartbeat if we dont get serious. if they dont want to live in a civilized then put them in prison for the rest of their lives or put them in their graves. :hammer::hammer::hammer:

Amen my Bwudda. If o ur own Bahamian people are not safe, You tink somebody visiting will be safe. Right now so many bahamians have a self imposed curfew because of the fair of crime, We are in our homes now gat to have around the clock security measures. We living behind bars in our own home.Man people wake up.Yes our crime and murder rate may be less than some of our Caribbean neighbours, but this island is too small for all the stuff that is going on. The gubmint and da judicial system need ta get it right and start hanging instead of having dese people out on bail or awaiting trial get fat up in fox hell prision.SMT.
