I know how you are feeling. It's a certain betrayal from FNM. I was really excited about the last year's election and kept my fingers crossed for FNM cause I saw a new hope for the Bahamas and your precious environment. All their promises and plans sounded so trustworthy...but the inactivity and the attitudes to some developments showed me the truth.
I do hope that Mr. Ingraham will be so kind and find the time to write a reply. I am sure that lots of people would agree with my opinions and facts which I presented in the letter.
I also believe that I can do more when I am on Bimini...hum and that is less than three weeks.

Could you post the letter you sent here on BI?

I've been looking over the 18 promises the FNM made and I went ahead and said yes/no/or maybe by each. Now I could be wrong about some of them so go ahead and correct me if I am.
-Adopt and implement policies to protect and enhance out environment=Maybe, as far as I know they haven't implemented any new policies regarding the environment.
-Respect the environment as the real basis of our country’s wealth= Maybe, don't know
-Launch an ongoing and extensive education and information programme to sensitize citizens to our natural environment=No, not that I know of
-Initiate programmes to strengthen vulnerable costal areas= No
-Enact legislation to further protect coral reefs, sea grass beds and mangroves= No, not done yet
-Increase marine protected areas to better preserve our marine biodiversity=Nope, should be done, poor Bimini
-Encourage mariculture projects to augment the increasing demand for seafood=Not sure, heard something about mariculture projects a while ago
-Increase government funding to The Bahamas National Trust= Not sure
-Reconstitute The Bahamas Environment Science and Technology Commission (BEST) as an independent statutory authority=No, not done yet
-Stop the present assault on the environmental integrity of the country resulting from indiscriminate dumping, unsightly abandoned buildings, derelict vehicles, excavation of hills and back-filling of wetlands=No, assault still ongoing
-Encourage the landscape of private properties= No
-Require that all new construction comply with the Town Planning and Building Control Regulations= No
-Ensure that proper drainage, waste disposal, electricity and potable water supplies are in place prior to the construction of homes in new subdivisions= Not sure
-Retain the ownership of all Government-owned water-bearing lands as part of the Bahamian patrimony= No
-Enact legislation for the regulation and the provision of guidelines for Environmental Impact Assessments for all developers= No
-Carry out Social Impact Assessments of all major developments=Not sure
-Encourage the incorporation of rain water tanks and water catchments in buildings over an established square footage= No
-Plant sea oats and other indigenous plants to protect sand dunes and other fragile coastal zones= No

Back on topic please.
The FNM has been in power for one year now, how do you think they are doing regarding their promises made in the FNM manifesto about the environment? There were 18 points and steps the FNM promised to take.
Here is a link to the manifesto:

Not hi jackin thread hon, but when I was flying over Georgia I felt like crying, thousands of miles and miles of trees, flew into Ohio, man even the ghetto have trees, massive lovely old trees. Trees every where, town centers, parks, road ways, I was in heaven.
I thought it was a middle class neighborhood, only the run down conditions of some of the homes let the cat out of the bag.
I weep for Nassau, run down filthy place, we cant cut down the trees fast enough.
I am sick of all the talk :realmad: really really sick. I passed Carmichael Road Clinic before leaving and true to form, trees have been hacked up again.
It is a MEDICAL FACT that people heal faster with views of greenery, and no not the mean green.
We need to come together as a people and DEMAND change.
But we just sit back and complain. And the beat goes on....................:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

You banging your head at me or at the FNM?
Not you, I applaud you because you seem to care.
I am banging my head because I cannot say what I really want to say, I am really angry because NO one listens in either parties.
Just same ole same ole when it comes to the environment, we need to ENFORCE the laws on the books.
Protected tree list isent worth the paper its printed on. All our Historical trees are dying for lack of attention, hacked by some one that has no clue on tree care.
Man I am just plain tired of all the TALK!

That's your problem right there!!! Never can they co-exist!! Not to mention HI and trustworthy, you better becareful, you just might cause a fire!!

During the campaign prior to election last year, HI said everything that people wanted to hear...Even though he had no intentions of living up to what he said!!!

He told all of us that he never wanted to return as PM!!! Now we have to live with what we have......"Becareful what you wish for, you just might get it!!
