i dont think it would get as much attention as the natalie holloway case in aruba or the missing girl in portugal. but people have been telling successive govts for years to get a hold on crime. amend stiffer laws and review the bail act. but noooooooo they wanna debate foolishness and try to blame us for the crime, saying we are not cooperating with the police and we dont raise our children properly. but when we turn in criminals they are back on the streets again and threatening us with death. we are not letting them back on the streets, the failed court system is. :hammer::hammer::hammer:

Without a doubt the Bahamas will be PLACED ON THE US TRAVEL ADVISORY LIST. The Government has to be more pro active they are doing nothing to combat crime, it will only get worse before it gets better.

If it is true it will be the lead story in his hometown all day and all night. Another black eye for our beloved Bahamas.

Another black eye for our beloved Bahamas. It is simple you are hopeing for that to happen......IN no way would this raise to that level.. did you see what happened in Aruba... and yet there was no over reaction from the US.. you are just simply hoping that this would happen... but I know that the US is more sensible then what you are seeming to suggest....

well firstly the government can only do so much. combating crime is a community involvemet.

THAT MEANS: if you think those fellas that did this may be your son, brother, boyfriend, husband, uncle, friend. TURN THIER BASS IN.

people raise your kids right so they dont resort to crime later on in life.

the government cant watch every single person in the bahamas.

also the even bad part is this man isnt from some poe dunk middle america town. he is from new jersey which is near new york/conniticut etc which is a huge market for the bahamas.

The government can certainly do their share. Logical solutions are to put a heavy concentration of police in high tourist areas (cable beach, PI, downtown) and a high police pressence in areas of historical high crime. But the government is not even doing this. There is no reason why you shouldnt have multiple police units patrolling cable beach, around and around all day long. There is no reason why you shouldnt have many police on foot patrolling downtown. These are logical ways to deter crime in the most important locations. What this government is doing, I have no idea.

Tourist Shot Outside Ex-PM’s Home

A New Jersey tourist was fighting for his life in hospital Thursday after being shot just two doors down from the home of former Prime Minister Perry Christie.

According to Mr. Christie’s wife, Bernadette, the former prime minister was standing by the gate of his Cable Beach home around 10pm Wednesday waiting for a visitor to arrive when he observed three elderly ladies and a younger man – all tourists – walking by.

Mrs. Christie said her husband greeted them with a "good evening."

The group returned the pleasantries and kept walking.

Moments later, Mr. Christie heard gunshots ring out.

The ex-PM ran onto the street where the women were screaming for help – their male companion had been shot, according to Mrs. Christie.

She noted that the officer on Mr. Christie’s security detail commandeered a passing vehicle and took the injured man – who sustained gunshot wounds to the left side of his chest – to the hospital.

Mr. Christie himself was unavailable for comment Thursday as he left the country very early in the morning, according to his wife.

According to police, the tourist – believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s – was in serious condition at the hospital.

Mrs. Christie said the women reported that they had seen two men dressed in black who approached them with a handgun and demanded cash.

According to reports, the man refused their demands and was shot.

Police believe the culprits were lurking through Ruby Avenue near Mr. Christie’s home.

Mrs. Christie echoed similar comments.

"They might have had a car parked somewhere in the back [of Ruby Avenue] just looking for victims," she said.

"Usually police used to be patrolling this area but I gather that this is something that will happen from time to time because the police presence is not as obvious as it used to be."

Police are asking anyone with information on this latest shooting to contact them at 919, 328-TIPS or 502-9991.
