the only one that i can think of is earl deveaux. if i were to pick a jr minister to be MONS i would say branville mccartney. :hammer::hammer::hammer:

Bran....I am not sure he ready for that!

you see dat eh? i would like to know how the MOT is going to put a spin on this? i can smell a travel warning from the US now. now i hope this govt dont think that this incident wont happen again and go back to their normal slackness again. tommy t should be removed from natl security immediately. :hammer::hammer::hammer:

All governments PRESENT AND PAST seem not to care about the crime situation. They live behind there well protected homes and don't have to worry about anything. Maybe we need a travel warning, so that they can wake up to what is going on in this country. As the Bahamas seems to be another US State, our politicians will only jump when Uncle SAm say so. When it begins to hurt our economy and tourists arrivals are down, I think they will swing into action.

i'm sorry to hear about the tourist. that is rather unfortunate. hope he/she pulls through it all okay.

but what pisses me off the most about this.....NOW....that a tourist has felt what Bahamians have been feeling for the past coupla years......i bet we'll see some things falling into place. THAT is the saddest thing about all of this. it had to take a tourist getting injured to open their eyes to what the people have been crying about all along. *smh*

and i highly doubt we're going to be put on the stoplist/blacklist......whatever list. not over this one incident. if they were to blacklist every country their citizens got injured in, they'd all be sitting over there twiddling their thumbs. however, if this becomes a pattern, we're definitely up ISH creek w/o a paddle.

but you gotta remember the incidence downtown and the stabbing at the beach on PI, both where visitors frequent. these were just the tip of the iceberg. we havent had an american shot or killed in a robbery in a long time. there were a few robberies here and there but none with serious injuries. crime is outta control on this little island. you gotta remember that the purpose of the american embassy is not just to issue out visas but to ensure the welfare of its citizens who live and visit here. that's there first priority. now with this incident happening they will have to inform its citizens who travel here to be very careful when in the bahamas.

Hmmmmmmmmm, we haven't had an "effective" MONS in what......about 6 years now. The former and present have both been quite underwhelming in that position.
One might ask, "what do you expect in a Minister?"
Good question...take the Minister of Social Services. While I have personal beefs with Algernon Allen, he was very effective in that Ministry. He was seen and he made sure he blew his horn. If he was bullsheeting us, he did a good job. Compare his.................with the lacklustre performance of Melanie Griffin. Quite different. Maybe she felt overshadowed by the more "intelligent" members of her party. But to ME, not only was she boring, she was also another underwhelming Minister.

i agree!!! :hammer::hammer::hammer:

dont forget it was bran's idea to put cctv cameras downtown and fish fry and get rid of vagrants who only seem to harass tourists and bahamians alike. he seems to have the right idea on how to handle crime in this country. he is a thinker, innovator and ready to work. i just think tommy t is lazy. give him a light portfolio or something!

like i said on that racism thread, i wont comment until i've heard the whole story.........lord have mercy.

i agree that the government has not been doing anything to help the crime situation. what can they do though? place more policemen on the job? set up neighbourhood watches? trust me, we need to start policing OURSELVES! one of these days (God forbid) we'll all be shuffled into the interior of new providence and wont be allowed in the places where tourists frequent.

Yay! just what some of us have always wanted: to be JUST like Jamaica! :sparky:

but, on this story, sorry i need to hear the whole story first. some tourists arent the perky, nice, law abiding citizens you would expect them to be. let me quite frank: it would not surprise me ONE BIT if this were a drug deal gone bad. I watched two men meet right on junkanoo beach one tourist, one bahamian, (dont jump to conclusions, i heard accents) and they were dealing. RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE POLICE STATION!!!!!!:sparky:

so like i said, half and half. the sooner we learn how to regulate and stop the drugs and guns coming into our country, the sooner the crime will stop. that takes the manpower of ALL OF US!!!! no no no, dont say that you cant do it, if you see somethin goin down, you call the police hotline and you tell dem! and das real talk.

Don't worry...the kinda shuffle HI does do don't have nothing to do with junkanoo!... It is so easy for us to sit here and say what needs to be done... but having that.. (let me go off the deep end)...

Yes, PM.. you need to do a shuffle... one that we all know that you are capable of OF.... and you need to FIRE some of those lazy ones.. espically those who still after one year do not have a clue...

In the important ministries, yes Tourism.. the junior minister is your best pick...

Then in Education, Carl is doing a great job and he is a hard worker.. but he can be more effective in National Security and Immigration... Ellie can stay to help out in Immigration, right now she has a tough job but she is doing well.. trust me on this...

IN SOCIAL SERVICES, the junior minister is allowing the former minister to throw her weight around.. she can me made a senior minister of social services.. but she needs to be MORE FORCUSED !!!!, stop getting off tract by has beens...

The AG's Office, the JUNIOR MINISTER - Can be promoted to senior Minister... he is focused.. and capable... he has made some tough decisions already.. but he needs to be free....

MOF - The current minister and DPM is a good fit he is not all ova the world like we have to ... but I think that he can some how speak up to more global issues like the climate change, etc...

Agriculture.. a difficult situation.. good minister, has a plan.. but when you have a ps who believes that she should be working for a PLP government there is a problem.. I say send the PS to a dest in the cabinet.. and allow the minister to have a good and focus PS.. not a political heck...

Lands and Survey - Consumer Affairs... (more focued attention to prices, etc..) Sid, he OK.. he does work really hard... WE need local government in Nassau as well....

Dr. Minnis.. OK

Dr. Deveaux, Excellent - his junior minister (although arrogant) are doing a good job... I do not like the BEC hike announcements.. BEC, need to bit the bullet and keep prices down.. cut the salaries of the top BEC Officials.. power is off too much.. (these two are great- Deveaux and Neymour..) However, neymour needs to go and work in South Beach... election is near at hand.. 2012...

Maynard and Woodside... OK.. - no problem

Dion Foulkes.. OK.... but focused attention to aspect to situation that distract him...

Vargo, ok....

AND YOU PM, you are still "Simply the best"... most Bahamians atill believe in you, some are a little disappointed with the first year performance... but we know you had a lot of mess to clean up from the five years of PLP mess... I know you need a little more time...

A lot of us have ya back..... as you lurk here on BI... trust me.. you see nothing has changed... WE know that you work day and night.. and no you are not perfect.. but I am so sure that having you as PM is much beter then having the leader of all things simple lead the Bahamas in these trying times...

It is tough, but PM you are much tougher then the times and we will all be OK, under your leadership...

Bahamians everywhere are lamenting about how they live in fear of the criminals.

Time for the shoe to be on the other foot.

Now I know that I fall squarely into the category of a young male, but it's time for the police to put any one of us to task who happens to be "out and about" without warrant . I personally don't mind getting questioned as to where I'm going and where I'm coming from because I know that I'm not a troublemaker.

Have a press conference announcing a war on criminal activity (then ACT like it). Impose a rigid monitoring policy in certain areas. Implement CCTV cameras at key entry and exit points in every subdivision.

Start building a new low-security holding compound for minor offenders AND finish it in a short amount of time - Roof, walls, doors, bunk beds, toilets and running water...simple. There is no need to send minor offenders to Criminal University in Fox Hill. And get the court system cleaned up. IT'S A MESS and everyone knows it, but no one is doing anything about it.

Long term solution: Boarding schools. Teach these kids some discipline and you wont have to worry about them becoming criminals. Get them out of the negative environments which are breeding this blight on our society. The kids of the parents who ARE doing their job right are being killed by the kids of the parents who aren't being PARENTS. That is a tragedy.

It doesn't matter who the government was in the past or who the government is now. We collectively as Bahamians need to fix this! We are watching this cancer spread through our nation and yet are not reacting sufficiently to stop it.

The RIGHT THINGS need to be done, and NOW!

Amen to that... We as Bahamians live in constant fear of our lives... If I have to be out after dark I always call my house and make sure someone is home so that when I get to my gate they can open the door... Grab my bag and literally run inside.. NO WHERE IN THIS COUNTRY IS SAFE ANYMORE FOR BAHAMIANS OR TOURISTS ALIKE...

We holding him for the stretch run, watch us come from the outside. My problem with Dr. Minnis is simple.. and all know it.. IT is the enviroment.. Nassau ti too dirty.. ONE year later and Nassau is worst.... a plan has to be developed to clean up the city RIGHT AWAY... BUT IN DOING SO.. the enviroment needs to be protected.. a GREEN policy has to be developed....
