View Full Version : Economy Bad??
bahama_rudest 05-17-08, - 01:06 AM fast food is cost like $8-10 a meal now .. they arent saving much if any.
thats the point. bahamians are so irresponsible with money that you see them buying all kinds of appliances during christmas but never use them. they prefer to keep it clean and spend three times the amount that they would spend on grocery just buying fast food. and after all that they still want to buy new appliances when christmas comes around again
watsayu 05-17-08, - 10:51 AM Your banker does not know what he is talking about. Disney is NOT buying Atlantis, were not involved in the discussions. Disney is anti-gambling. There is a group interested in Atlantis (not approached by Sol but did the approaching), and it is not Disney. You are so right Canesfins, in fact Phase 4, should be starting as soon as the end of August 2008, with Atlantis lifting the freeze on hireing by that time as well.... Sol, has stated that plans to sell are absolutely no true.... but .... people will talk....
.. In my view this country has one serious problem.... :taped2:
I am of the view that measures to deal with it are now going to put in placed...
To many Bahamians are been left out and as such, Bahamians have to
come to gather on this issues.... Lots of money to be made... but in one day.... the amount of $$s that leave this country is amazing....
I know a young lady.. (white foreigner) came to the Bahamas a tourist, about 20 years ago, she is now in her late 40s.... when she came.. (for only two weeks now).. she stayed.. never left...
SHE WORKED without status for about 2 years... (high paying job).. she got married to a Bahamian, she be came a paper Bahamian, she then moved up in the inner circles of the foreign community in Nassau... she got perks and net work that any Bahamian could never dream of getting.. never...
NOW, she owns, a big business, lots of land, and hires more foreigners and tells her story as a way of encouring the same type of behaviour... but her story was told in the right circles... and as a results.. new measures are now been put in placed and more protection of the average Bahamian has to be made....
It is not too late to protect Bahamians...
I am of the belief that soon, relief will come.. but I feel that the next few months, espically June July and August will be bad...
OH, I cannot forget to mention that she left her Bahamian husband... she got RID of him....
canesfins 05-17-08, - 11:55 AM I understand that everyone wants to "protect Bahamians", but the main issue is not the level of protection or invented opportunity, it is the fact that in many instances Bahamians do not either have the guts, desire to work hard, or decision making ability to take advantage of business opportunities. Foreigners are generally much more business savy (instinctively) than Bahamians, and trust me, the Bahamas is ripe with opportunity. Bahamians are smart, they generally have good ideas, however they tend to get to a point and then back off, foreigners generally have the natural tendencies to see projects through, and thus that is why it seems that they are more successful in our country. Just my opinion.
BAHMIA 05-17-08, - 01:15 PM Sorry, I dont think that is the case. The conessions given are for major foreign investment projects, not upstart foreigners. Didnt the government just offer grants to young Bahamian entrepreneurs. The local man is protected in many an industry that the foreign person cannot even participate.
You're not talking about the $1,000 - $5,000 grants are you? When is the government going to fund Bahamian million-dollar projects? And what industries exactly are you talking about? The poor ones that white people don't want to be involved in anyway?
brownting 05-17-08, - 04:36 PM If it is so .. why so many people out on the road spending money on gas and food and other stuff? Mean people dem all over Nassau today, trust most just out cause they want be out, dress up with perms and ting, traffic is barely moving its so thick. The mall is jammed pack, people spending all kind of money on food like $10 Twin Brothers Crack Conch, $10 Sbarro meals, and then some .. the other stores are packed too, and see people exchanging all kinds of money, and its not just the mall, its all over, PalmDale, everywhere .. it certainly doesn't look like its a bad economy.
Granted SpamStopper knows very little about economies, but come on now??
Whats going on? Last minute shopping before they break spree?
Lurker, anyone?? What yah say?
i waws sayin da same ting....acrilyc and airbrush nails cant dun...people buyin weave galore n gel and bleachin cream...clothes...and all about dress up...een look like hard times at all....

Name me Bahamians that want to participate in million dollar projects and cannot because the government doesnt help them out. My experience is that the Bahamians who have the ability to participate in million dollar projects are unwilling to do so, and its not because the government "doesnt help them out"
