It was recently revealed that the US has oil reserves numbering 770 million gallons, and that the Bush administration has been consistently stock piling oil and is even now begging the Saudi's for more. People want a stop to all this stock piling as it is driving up the cost of gas for average American citizens, not to mention us here in the Bahamas. Thats enough oil to fuel the US without importation for 3 months. Most of that fuel is used by their military. With their high demand for oil in addition to big countries like China and India with their hue demands, we wont see any relief soon. The US stockpiles however for emergencies (not sure if the one you are talking about is different though). Strategic oil reserves they are called.

I think that OPEC wants the US to be desperate enough to eat through that reserve. If the US does that it will have no other option, and at the mercy of OPEC. People will have relief for only 3 months? Then what after that? The US would have to go right back to OPEC which will dictate the price and production, and the US and us to an extent will have no other option but to take it.
