I was watching Wendell Jones’ show “Platform” last night and they had a guy on from the HDA, I think it was. But he made a remark that was not pursued but I found to be most insightful. He said, and I paraphrase, “It is not that Bahamians can’t do quality work, it seems consistency is the problem.”
I believe he is right we are not consistent in the quality of work we do, even in the most simply of things. For example buy some take-out from your favorite fast food joint on, say a Monday, and it is good. Buy the same thing as few days later and it is undercooked, or burned! One day a person will give his best, the next he don’t care! One day the people behind a counter will smile and ask if they can be of any help. The next day they wont even look at you.
The hallmark of an efficient country (and a business) is consistency (not bad consistency, but good consistently.)
Do you think we have a problem in that area?

So true. I used to go to GayLords for the best Tandori this side of the equator. One night I went, everything was wrong with the food. The nan bread was rubbery, the sauce was watery, the lamb and chicken curry was....YUCK!!
I couldn't even pretend it was good. We knw the owners so they took care of the bill and told us they had changed the chef. We;ve never been back since. They are closed now.
I make THE BEST MACARONI. BAR NONE I tell ya!! So.......since I'm always asked to do it, I cannot make it like we Bahamians usually do. I ONLY make my macaroni with a recipe and follow the ingredients to the letter.
One of the problems local eateries have here is they cook like they're cooking at home and just knock the food together without a recipe. So, you go one day the food is good, the rice is (like we say) one, one. You go the next time, the rice is FRIENDLY!!:sparky:
One time the food is salty, next time fresh like they ran out of seasoning.
Same goes for workmanship. You hire a fella because you saw some good work he did. When you look at his work that YOU paying him for, its like WTFrig..And he looking for HIS pay!! NOWW!! *shakes head*

Right when I saw this therad, my first thought was construction. If work/service is performed and its consistent; chances are that it's consistently bad.
