View Full Version : Batelco
preacherl 02-25-03, - 11:09 AM I have just sent to the the News Paper a few minutes ago a suggestion on the privatising of Batelco. The government is about to sell 49% of the company to a private firm while they keep 51% in the intrest of the people. I am suggesting that if the intrest of the people is so important then they should spilt the 49 percent between two of the eight companies that want to have it. That way there will be more compatition and the we should have better service in the Bahamas.
Also cable and wireless should strongly be discouraged from coming into the Bahamas. It is not a very good company and they are really exploiting the people in just about all of the Caribbean Islands. This is my opinion.
classicromeo22 02-26-03, - 08:43 PM I dont know anything personally about that company but I refuse to beleive that it could get worse than it presently is.
Lindbergh Smith 12-13-04, - 09:54 AM The privatization Of BTC
The privatization of BTC will be an inevitable event. No matter how much the Government of the Bahamas procrastinate or posture with regard to the imminent sale of the company there will not be much left financially for them to continuously have dividend calls like they have been doing.
BTC has been their primary source of revenue to compensate for the short fall in government being able to pay its debts. They have been cashing in on BTC cash. SO hence the reason for the delay of the privatization of BTC. When this source dries up then they will of course bail out and sell, its just a matter of time when revenues continue to fall.
This is why the executive management team who do not support privatization is trying all sorts of outlandish programs and promotions to get the companies revenue numbers up, because they know once its sold they are gone.
They have been responsible for the chaos and disaster over the past 12 years of what is wrong with BTC along with the board members whom all know absolutely nothing about running a Telecom company in a now Advance Global Communications environment.

I feel exactly the same way also about Cable Bahamas, I feel they should not be here, for the life of me I do not see how it is possible that we have our own TV station ZNS and must purchase subscription with Cable Bahamas in order to get clear reception. I do not see for the life of me why cable is not a service offered by ZNS.
Someone is making a lot of money off of cable and I am sure it is not the Bahamian people.
garnelleo 03-09-05, - 10:43 PM Want a clear reception, this is what we did., and I'm sure ppl do too.
Try a fork in the back of the tv. (or course put it in when the tv is off, and if it could fit.
OR
Try a nail or other metal that can fit (same instructions as above applies)
or
get one of those antennae things.

Thanks, I have one of those antenna things, but it makes no difference. Now I can try all the other stuff you mention but this is not what we should be doing. We went backwards with broadcasting (other than radio), with TV we leaped backwards, and many great leaps backwards, we have many options to see the world but not much option to see the Bahamas. This is what I told a ZNS sales person this week looking for sales for the cooperation. Besides, I will never know if my commercial is being played properly because I do not receive clear reception and I do not subscribe to cable.
garnelleo 03-10-05, - 09:09 AM If the antannae does not work, I doubt the makeshift ones will do. But if u want to watch zns, go to www.dabahamianting.com
I can get ZNS on an external antenna. It does not come in as well as I would like but it is watch able - just! Perhaps, ZNS should "pump up" its signal?
garnelleo 03-10-05, - 01:13 PM zns should pump up its content as well. The news is already grim, but the dark gloomy set makes it seem even more depressing. Then the intro is the same from since i was in primary school.
p.s.
u c where the conversation is headed
Batelco ==> Cable Bahamas ==> ZNS
Bookie & Barabbi 03-30-05, - 11:13 AM Its amazing this company has not been priviatized as yet. The wastage that occurs at this place is down right disgracfull and every member of the management team should be quite ashamed of themselves. The wasting of tax payers money seem to be a joke for the staff and Board of BTC. One example of this is that BTC has been renting a generator from caterpillar for the past three years for $8,000 per month. If one does not believe me check out the Generator sitting out east at the Camperdown site. Its ridiculous.
And who checks out the stolen computers that went missing out of a trailer at the Perpall Track stores department. No one. Every one at BTC is just having a grand ole time just waiting for the big Union raise for no work and bad service. The union should be ashamed of themselves asking for raise when their lazy members don't even work. The Executive management team is no better. But I wonder who's being paid to rent that generator for that price on the inside anyway. hm mhmhmhm!

I would like to add that Bahamians should be ashamed of themselves for stealing the original generators that BTC had on site. It's ridiculous & down right disgracefull.
RockWell 03-31-05, - 12:01 AM I wonder what BCT pays the sub contractor that does all their work ..??
Why cant they do it inhouse, and save some money?
Ask the FNM seeing that most of their contractors are previous employees.
Alien 03-31-05, - 09:37 AM i believe in privatization only if the government has full power to regulate all activity!
in fact fully privatize the industry...but make it so that all industry has ties to the government either by handing out liscenses for parties to work under the government and hence the governments economic regulation, and or free market entrprise with government supervision and regulation!
:D
RockWell 03-31-05, - 10:59 AM Yeah but the FNM isnt in power, the PLP is. They have the power to sought these problems out, but they aren't. They are all the same, FNM, PLP, doesnt look like there will ever be any change on the horizon for our Bahamas.
I'm glad you see it that way, maybe you can convince some who still crying for them to be returned to power.
