View Full Version : Gays say they can marry in the Bahamas
songbird 05-28-08, - 07:59 PM The majority may not always be right, but it is their will that governs the people.
one of the downfalls of democracy.
An old maxim of the courts: "Vox populi, vox Dei."
The voice of the people are the voice of God.
Not saying i believe that, but hey. there it is.

And there is alway the right of the few to stand against the many.
But really how many people in the Bahamas do you think are really against equal rights??

Truthfully, I cannot answer that question. there may be some people that think that some women aren't suited for a particular job, and that they shouldnt be allowed to hold a certain position. there may be others that think that a Haitian shouldnt hold the same job as a Bahamian........I dont know.
Equal rights, in my opinion, is relative. Always has, always will be. depends on what the other party is. remember, blacks were considered 3/5 human by the americans, women, barely above that.
not saying that its correct, but hey there it is. Im not saying that the majority is right, but in a society, where we all live together, democratically, the will of the majority will always reign. im not saying that its correct, but its true.
And if the majority of Bahamians believe that the right to marriage is not a basic HUMAN RIGHT then it isnt. in the bahamas, that is. finished deal.
Truth Hurts keeps on saying that he thinks that it will be the courts that will decide on this matter. I beg to differ, I think that the people of The Bahamas will decide. yep that's right, in a referendum. Because if the judge makes it common law, then statute law can easily overrule it, the judge can deem it "unconstitutional" then the whole she-bang can go to a referendum. WHAT the Bahamian people will decide is a different case altogether.

Equal rights. Ha. Pure sophistry. I am for equal rights, but I am against gay marriage for the reasons elucidated in my posts. But for those who didn't read it or have a short memory or an IQ the size of their shoes, here it is again: Same sex marriage is the direct antithesis of what marriage is -- a union between a man and a woman.
There is absolutely no way that you can say that those opponents of same sex marriage are not for equal rights. That statement is about as bent as some genders around here.

5. any close or intimate association or union: the marriage of words and music in a hit song.
6. a formal agreement between two companies or enterprises to combine operations, resources, etc., for mutual benefit; merger.
7. a blending or matching of different elements or components: The new lipstick is a beautiful marriage of fragrance and texture.
so you are saying that a heterosexl is more human than a homosexual??
as a herterosexual can marry who he or she wants but a homosexual cant marry who they want?
creature 05-28-08, - 08:55 PM It didnt start in the Bible, the institution of marriage is older than that
The Bible starts at creation so marriage cannot be older!
RockWell 05-28-08, - 09:13 PM Sa 18:16 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
1Sa 18:17 And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles.
And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?

Thanks bey Rockwell, I was just coming to that. since you already did it, i'll just cite another verse:
1 Samuel 20:41 - "...David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with his face to the ground. Then they kissed each other and wept together--but David wept the most.
42 Jonathan said to David, ' Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord , saying "The Lord is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants for ever."'
Ah! That's what the covenant entailed. friendship. Thanks vicky. honestly, I think i'll go carry this out now with my best friend. We met at confirmation and have been inseperable ever since. its been almost 8 years, and even though we know we'll be best friends for life, i now know, that we can go before God and cement our friendship. here i was, thinking it was trivial. I learn new things every day. Thanks vicky!
