Politicians children should be off limits. I know a lot of politician children from offspring of LOP, ADH, etc. who had run ins with the law and nobody asked their parents to resign or for that matter respond as in those days it was considered a private family matter.

I agree that there is no need for resignation. As it stands, in most or all high schools and some primary schools on this island a student or students have been caught in sexual acts. These cases have never come to public light. It is because it was the son or daughter of the maid or the plumber.

In my opinion I don't care whose son or daughter it was. The real issues here are has the matter been dealt with accordingly, bearing in mind they are both students. I don't think the boy should go to jail because he never put a gun the the girls head. The reality is that this is one incident out of many that occur daily in our schools. They happened to get caught, he happens to be the son of a politician.

I believe that the family of the girl should be the ones giving demands to the Ministry of Education if any. But we have not heard anything from them. We don't know the particulars. In these private schools especially, having sex is like going to the movies not a very big deal. They have sex parties in some of these schools.

How do we as a society deal with these issues? How do we get out children to understand the repercussions of their actions as teenagers? How do we teach our children to have some type of morals? How do you deal with teenagers hooked on sex? That is what the real issue here. It should not be an opportunity to smear anyone right now because it can and has happened to others in the past and because it was not the son or daughter of a politician it never came to light.

Lets get real people. Deal with the real issue here.

I happen to know both the parents involved in this matter carl is a close friend of mine and has assisted me in getting my life back on track . The girls father is a nigeria but is now a bahamain citizen, He does not want the matter to go any further because it has caused him much shame and embarrasment ,he just wish the matter never happened and whant it behind him for the sake of his daughter the child is a twin and because of this the other child is also feeling what there sister is going through. Its a pity what politicains will do to try to gain browny points, he tells me that the other side is calling him daily wanting him to press charges against the young man, but because of the type of business that he conducts he does not want the matter to go public and just wish it would go away . his daughter he agrees was not a saint in the matter but he still feels that she was taken advantage of. So BI for the sake of my freind and his child lets cease and desisit so that the child can now go back to having a normal life which i fear is no longer possible , the child will go to boarding schooll in canada were her older sister is in college .
As for the other side he is beating up on himself daily one for bringing his fathers name to the forfront and two for ruining a young ladies life perhaps for a long time to come. he is suffering bouts of depression and wishes that he had not allowed his testestrones to run wild on him . he has lost the respect that he has worked so hard to gain not only in his schoolll but in his community and his family circles its eating him away . i feel for both families and will keeep them in prayer.

In this case Carl Bethel is not only a parent (He would not have to tell the public anything becase it would be a private family matter) but he is also the MOE!!

Mr. Montana, I agree with this. No one is thinking of the physical, mental and emotional stress that the children must be going through on a daily basis. It is not the business of the public in my opinion for anything to be brought to the public due that the fact that the public will then really know who it is if they don't already. That is punishment in itself. Somtimes Bahamians have to bite the bullet and let things be.
