Both of you...THINK!

Do you really believe that in a major operation such as the one being discussed that individual officers would take the INCREASED risk of abusing their powers? That is the equivalent of saying that EVERYONE who partook in that exercise was corrupt!

That, by default, is saying that we can't and shouldn't trust our police force.

Think about it! Really think about it.

All past cases of police force abuse have been individual and isolated. THIS instance was a mass operation with numerous civilian and personnel witnesses!

You guys appear to have no understanding of how our forces need to have the flexibility to go in and control a crowd without fear of being automatically branded as villains.

Perhaps you guys would have been happier if they had went in there "tiptoeing around" halfheartedly and the whole thing happened to turn into a riot because the force "didn't want to step on anyone's toes". When dealing with a crowd, forces worldwide are trained to isolate and control the "unruly" or potentially volatile persons quickly and harshly, otherwise it can snowball and lives could be lost!

AGAIN I REPEAT: Those who try to actively undermine our police force in such a way are not to be trusted. Personally, as a citizen who pays them their salaries, I want them to go in and make sure that they are respected! They are the Police and Defense FORCE, not the Police and Defense "let me do this in a way that your feelings don't get hurt".

Bottom line...they need to be able to do their job. IF there was a legitimate concern, there are more appropriate ways to handle it. This BS about a demonstration shows that the persons involved are only "opportunistic activists", riling up the people because they know that we have become a nation who would rather mistrust the police, than let them do what they are supposed to do.
mah bwoy read what i said i said i wont comment on this incidence because i dont know the facts but my question was in the general sense

At the end of this, the Bahamian people will decide whom they believe more...stay tuned
And therein lies the job of politicians (of both parties) and police supervisors to make a united stand. Collectively they need to address this nation and let its citizens know that they are taking an aggressive stance on crime and the monitoring of criminal activity. Force representatives need to reassure citizens that they operate solely in the best interest of the public during the commission of their duties and that SUPPORT is needed from the community, NOT resistance.

The police and defense forces exist to protect us. Who in their right minds would seek to diminish the powers of those who guard the safety of the citizens of this nation?

If we "handcuff" our police and defense forces' abilities to quell potentially volatile scenarios, we open up a Pandora's box of problems.

- Automatically the bad boys in town will KNOW that when facing officers (and potential arrest) they can make false accusations, cuss/resist, get in a couple of blows OR worse, all while the community stands behind them and not the police/defense force.

- The "trickle down" effect is that citizens overall then will see that the police and defense forces are not as respected as they should be and public support for those organizations will fall sharply.

- Crime obviously will increase after that, for officers will spend more time defending their actions in our courts as opposed to being out in the community defending the people. THAT would embolden the criminals even more.

Long term vision, people, long term vision...Hell, if they need me to write the public address to squash this nonsense, I'll do it. Ya'll need to step back and stop supporting people who want to undermine the effectiveness of this nation's security forces.

lol...I am sure the Key family will support this...
Their dead son is a prime example of the police doing their jobs zealously.

No...don't try to bring Edison Key into this. We all know that on every police force worldwide there are persons who need to be made an example of. And very often they are brought to justice!

Several bad examples do not make a bad police force. Your assertion is an insult to every police officer that is protecting you, even as we write these words, from being robbed, shot, stabbed, hurt, attacked or otherwise harmed.

Citizens always tend to neglect to thank the good officers, WHO ALWAYS ARE THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY, for doing their jobs every day to keep us safe! Yet, when the actions of a few, like in the Key case, are brought to justice, some of us forget all reason and want to spit in ALL of those good officers' faces by saying that the ENTIRE force is corrupt.

Can you be any more unfair to the members of our Royal Bahamas Police and Defense Forces?

As said previously, local incidents of police abuse are often isolated. The scenario that we are speaking of at present was an operation with multiple ranking officers and numerous witnesses present.

Everyone who is protesting needs to take a trip to some parts of south Africa, so that they can understand what abuse and misuse of power really is.
The inherent problem with this entire scenario is that a warrant was issued, assertive force was presented and illegal immigrants were found to be participating in a public festival.
... Amnesty International ... Some people need to be told straight and plain that THE BAHAMAS is not a country where you come in and do as you please.
This is why it is important for this nation to ensure that those who grace our shores RESPECT this nation and what it stands for.
...

We're on da same page here brudda!

When I hear Amnesty --- I think Fred Mitchell (sorry if I'm wrong...hope he een assoc. w/ dis!)

As for illegal immigrants... outta hand as is; and we need to START somewhere and SUSTAIN it...

All immigrants need to understand that we must RESPECT Rome and the Romans when in Rome --- no exception :hammer:
