I was wondering went the Government started the Housing Project was it for every Bahamian or just the poor. i mean some people are over QUALIFIED for those houses that is why the price is so high now. i think the GOVERNMENT HOUSING should only be for people who makes under $15,00.00 per year and every body else make their own way.i have a friend him and his wife makes more than $75,000.00 per year and living in a government house. WOW! i applied in 1996 but never got a call since then i have my home and it is fully paid for this i am thankful for. i would still be paying for that house now.

1996 that is a long time wow, but the thing is (not referring to you) you go through the screening process to see If one is qualified (btw people do get turned down) and then they call you, If you dont have your deposit ready they will pass you by.
$15,000.00 a year that works out to about $300.00 per week, out of that how much do you think they can afford to contribute towards a mortgage?
Lets say the lowest payment is $500.00 per month at the moment that leaves them with $700.00 per month (roughly)
Normally when people apply for homes they have a loan here and there already.
Im not trying to diss but applying for a home making under $15,000.00 per year lets say would be more of a risk.......dont you think?
Unless the home is $50k Im not sure that would work at $75,000.00

I was told it is NOT as easy as it use to be to qualify for a home anymore, sad but true, if you make $250.00 per week and a single mother Im sorry to say, I think they will turn you down.

What i am saying is that it is for that CLASS of people only and they would work with these people. i remember in Atlanta they had some homes for $200,000.00 and it was for a stated wage class and you could not be over Qualified.

I think that the Govt housing scheme should only be for persons in a certain category and not who you know.
