Windsor Park has been portrayed, as the new haven for cricket development in The Bahamas. Located in the heart of New Providence it has all the amenities conducive for great cricket, and clean family fun. That perspective quickly changed over the weekend, as chaos and violence broke out during a match between Castrol Commonwealth, and St. Agnes.

Cricket fans were left in shock and disbelief as members of St. Agnes violently attacked players from Castrol Commonwealth and even some of the fans in attendance. Players from Castrol Commonwealth were forced to run for cover as the unwarranted attack resulted in rocks being thrown and one player and a fan being injured.

The players from St. Agnes who initiated the violence hurled stones on the porch of the shaded area where players, fans and officials were seated. Fortunately no further injuries were sustained.

The player and fan that sustained minor injuries reported the matter to the Southern Police Station, after police visited the scene of the attacks.

Many players from Castrol Commonwealth expressed disappointment and an unwillingness to continue playing games at Windsor Park. They felt like the violence was an " unnecessary exercise in the lack of self control."

Before the attacks started St. Agnes had scored 315 runs, and Castrol Commonwealth at the time of the incident had scored 104 runs for the loss of one wicked, making for what might have been an exceptionally good match.

After the incident members of the St. Agnes team that were not involved in the altercation expressed disappointment in their teammates for the poor display, and violence.

Yet we shake our heads and wonder why school aged children fight for no good reason.

I recall years ago when I was a young un, my brothers and their friends were forced to take me where ever they went. One of the places we went was to watch the softball games opposite Min of Works building, and baseball games at the T.Robinson Stadium.

The same big gray men, who are today calling the talkshows lamenting the fact that Nassau is not safe and there a scant places where one can take their families, are some of the same "men" who fought and cussed and caused games to be put on hold everynight!!

I mean, their behaviour back then caused the death of POPULAR nightime games which were well attended, fun and safe, before the liquor got into them.

They also caused the death of basketball. Again... FIGHTS!!

This crime problem is not new by any measure. The players are new.

There used to be discos all over Nassau and Paradise Island. Fights eventually caused all to close. There were hardly any guns involved, the weapon of choice were the knife, switchblade and the dreaded ice-pick. Oh and off course LYE, for your rivals.

I do believe that is one of the real reason why we cannot find answers to our problems. Some of the up-standing men in our community were deeply invloved in its decline. They may not want to admit it. But....ball players, good ones, were respected. They had good respectable jobs. Bank Managers, Lawyers, Radio Announcers etc. Most fought every weekend.

The ones who were to cool to fight....had loads of women cheering for them in the stands. I can remember many fights amoung those women. Subsequently, many of those women had kids for those "cool guys." Some of thoses guys were married and promptly left those "crazy" women before their child was born. Some of their neglected children are wrecking havoc on us today.

My brothers and their friends made me promise not to tell mommy what really happened at those games because they enjoyed the ballgames and knew she would not allow them to go back.

I did learn the game in 1969 when attending school in New Castle Upon-Tyne. Never knew it to be violent.

Yeah, yeah, you all wondering how I got there and not being a Bahamian back then

This part especially caught my attention. What would process anyone to gather chemicals for physically hurt someone with? That's just beyond animalistic.
