View Full Version : HOA today.....housing housing housing
hiphopanonymous 05-21-08, - 08:00 PM I got a chance to watch the HOA proceedings for hours today.
The resolution that the FNM was trying to pass was a resolution to transfer 88.279 acres of Crown Land to the Ministry of Housing for a housing project in Spring City, Abaco.
Started off with MP for High Rock, Kenneth Russell, explaining the deal and him stating that the FNM so far has not constructed one new house. He said the reason for this was because they are busy repairing the houses left by the PLP. Russell said his ministry is trying to create a cash flow before building new houses.
Naturally, Shane Gibson, former PLP minister of housing, had plenty to say. Opened up his speech by accusing Russell of not being able to "walk and chew gum at the same time," referring to Russell not repairing existing houses and building new ones.
Shane also said employees of MP Russell had been calling him clue-less. Shane said he believed Russell wasn't clue-less, but was "clue-less at housing and a master of excuses."
For the next couple hours if went back and forth between FNM's and PLP's accusing each other and defending their parties' actions.
hiphopanonymous 05-21-08, - 08:11 PM I noticed today that many MP's laced there speeches with expressions. Here are some interesting and amusing ones said today:
High Rock MP Kenneth Russell said: "Just as every sperm donor is not a father..." unfortunately I missed the second part because I was laughing.
Golden Gates MP Shane Gibson said: "He can't walk and chew gum at the same time." Referring to Kenneth Russel.
"They putting a thousand fishing lines in the swimming pool, trying to catch something."
"The truth of the pudding is in the eating."
MP for South Abaco, Edison Keys ended his speech with: "As old folks used to say....a man of words and not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds." Referring to Perry Christie.
Garden Hills MP Brensil Rolle: "Right will always out do wrong."
V. Alfred Gray MP for MICAL: "...moving with tip-toe anticipation......move with bird's speed."
Bernard Nottage MP for Bain/Grants Town: "Fix it or exit." Speaking to Kenneth Russell
But the award for best soundbite in my opinion goes to Shane Gibson when he was being scolded by the deputy speaker of the house for calling Kenneth Russell clue-less, he said "...they can call me wut-less but I can't say clue-less?"

HAHAHAHAHAHA
All of this was said TODAY in the HOA?! Gees. I am too upset I couldn't get it on dabahamianting.com, man.
bahamiangoddess 05-21-08, - 09:29 PM The best part for me when was when Alfred Sears kept asking the speaker questions. It would say something like "Mr. Speaker what if so so " Mr. Speaker can you say what will happen!
He said it say many times. Kwasi said to him, "I cannot participate in debate, you keep asking me questions and I cannot answer you"
It is amazing that everyone has a million and one comments, questions and interruptions when everyone else is speaking, but when the Prime Minister speaks, the house is extra quiet.
Like the old people say, they look like they scared to "knock mouth" with him.
hiphopanonymous 05-21-08, - 10:00 PM IMO, the most disappointing and upsetting speaker today was the MP for Golden Isles constituency, Charles Maynard.
He got up to give his 5 cents and support for the resolution.
But, with a grin on his face, he announced that since Shane Gibson had brought up glue-less, and wut-less had been thrown around already he wanted to add some lesses. It was something about how he wanted to describe the former PLP administration using -less suffixes....so they could complain now and not over the next four years. It was a bad attempt at humour and completely pointless action that wasted valuable time.
It was also classless and served only to provoke the opposition.
Maynard then started listing off words to describe the PLP like (and these are just some of the words he said): spineless, brainless, cashless, colourless, faceless, heartless, mindless, useless, ruthless, meaningless, etc,
He then seemed quite pleased with himself and continued to talk for some time without saying anything of substance.
What was the point of saying all that? What did he accomplish? I was stunned that the speaker said nothing...and hope some senior FNM MP's have scolded him.
This is the second time I've seen Maynard speak in the HOA and the second time I've seen him waste time and make remarks that have no good purpose. He seems to get a kick out of himself though.
hiphopanonymous 05-21-08, - 10:16 PM I also got to see three FNM MP's speak today in the HOA who I've never seen speak before:
1. Edison Key, the MP for South Abaco. His speech was alright, he seemed a little shaky though. He supported the resolution and talked briefly about food security and that he found that BAIC under the PLP paid out $500,000 to people with out proper documentation (or something like that). Props to Key though, his speech was the shortest prepared speech today, it was approximately 10 minutes long, from 11:37-11:47 a.m.
2. Kendal Wright, the MP for Clifton. He seconded the motion by Russell to pass the resolution. He spoke for 24 minutes. I was really paying attention because his speech seemed to drag on and on but he did make some good points about the environment. He said new houses should have an emphasis on utilizing green technology. He encouraged solar power and wind power.
3. Brensil Rolle, the MP for Garden Hills. I thought he was a good speaker. His speech was 23 minutes long. He talked about government housing in a couple subdivisions including Pride Estates which is in his constituency. He claimed that when he came in to his ministry the PLP owed contractors $30 million.
He also shocked me by apologizing for misleading the PLP and the Bahamian people with former statements he made: He said that earlier he had stated that 80% of the houses built by the PLP needed repair, but had recently found that it was more like over 90%, which was greeted by laughter and knocking on the desks by the FNM. He also said that in West End, 100% of houses built by the PLP needed repairs.

In west end the reason the houses need repair is due to the fact that they are in close proximity to a company that blast rocks, the shock waves from these blast cause cracks in the building

WHAT?! That is ridiculous. That doesn't even make any sense. Where did he even get such an idea?! Anyway, I'm glad he had a good time.
GenX: You speak the truth, and in a way that really makes me laugh. Keep up the good work! Lol.
