Tell me it ain't so.. I was just listening to the radio and just heard an entire ad bout Western Union services in CREOLE.. Now I don't know if u guys remember when Batelco some years back added a little Creole to one of their ads and the Bahamian population went seeming crazy.. By hearing this Western Union Ad in creole is that telling me that this is fast becoming the accepted second language in our country?

Exotic, that ad aint geared towards you, its for the 50 to 100k Haitians living in the Bahamas...

Mind you it does annoy me sometimes too; 'specially when they stop my music on island fm and have an whole hour of creole jibberish that I can't understand...but its their radio station and I guess them Haitians them have money to spend...

one executive tell me that Haitians buy more phone cards than Bahamians. go figure...and Haitians send out more US dollars out of the country...go figure.

Well at least if you understand the language, you can eaves drop on the plans for the revolution.

This is no big surprise. When I was at COB, law students and social work students had to take Creole. You'd think we would encourage the people who live in The Bahamas to speak ENGLISH... Not "pet them up" by making our people learn their language. I thought only the Cubans had that kind of power - Gone to Miami and making the people learn Spanish. Go into a store in Miami, and the first thing those people say is "Buenas tardes" like Spanish is the first language.

Good luck with that!

I have no intention of learning Creole. If Nassau goes Creolian (LOL) I won't be returning for more than 2 weeks at a time.

Latest estimates say that 32% of New Providence is Haitian (ie not Haitian/Bahamian, but rather Haitian).

I don't mind. Somebody has to do the work while we lounge around BI.
