It seems to me that a contract is a contract. If Owens or his agent did not like the contract, the time to complain is before it is signed not after!

Your original comment to me on this issue was "My reason for asking your opinion CG is that alot of people White & Black feel that he is being used by a white agent to further his own goals. I would like to hear your prespective as a white person who isn't a football nut, so you SHOULD be impartial."

It is possible he is being used, it is hard to say from the little I have read about it. If he is, he does not have the "smarts" to see it. It is more likely that both Owens and the agent saw a chance to get more than the $49 million from somewhere else. Now they are trying to junk the contract. I hope the team stands its ground and does not back down. Besides, $49 mill is good pay, even after taxes and the agent's commission. I'll bet you that Owens could not get that kind of salary in any other endeavor. He should also know that the really big money comes after the career. If he is any good, he will be flooded with offers to endorse products.
I believe the racial part came into being because his former agent was non-white (latino I believe) & he just up & fired him, hired this new guy & demanded a new contract.I believe the agent is just a wolf who saw a sucker & an opportunity to make money. But some see it as a smart white man using a dumb black man to get ahead. That was the mean reason for me asking you, because as I said before both blacks & whites see it as a tricky racial situation.

Why did he fire him? Could it be that it is Owens who is grumbling about the contract and the former agent refused to go along with it?

Is Owens really that dumb?

I don't see it that way, but then again I don't know the whole story. I think it is just a case of good old-fashioned greed on Owens' side as well as the agents.

See the tricky part is he never demanded money before & the agent is known for asking for outrageous contracts for his clients.

thats all business .. if i do a job for someone else, i get 40% and that person gets 60%, whether i do all the work or not.

Im just thankful to make the money :-)

Some contractors want too much and ive been used plenty in the past ..
no more though ..

Thing is, if he is good enough at what he does, and is already well known, then there is no need for an agent, is there?

Well, that throws a new light on things! If the agent has a reputation for outrageous demands, he might well be "up to something." But the contract has been signed, it is too late. Should they be able to break the contract, it will ultimately be Owens that pays the price. Owens will be branded as a "difficult" person, who does not live up to his word nor honors a contract. (If he is not so branded now!) I think, unless he is very, very, very good at the game, he can kiss his future good-bye. A dreadful warning to us all "Greed kills!" :what:

I came in at the end of this one...Favorite Sport...drinking Kalik

As for agents getting you a job, I have always been happy with charging 20% for a job, depending on the contract.
