Progressive Liberal Party MPs had the worst attendance record for the 2007 session in the House of Assembly. Only four of the 41 MPs had perfect attendance records, excluding House speaker, Alvin Smith.

The House had 47 sitting days for the 2007 session.

A look at the attendance records in the House of Assembly, provided by the House clerks, revealed that several elected officials have been skipping out on sittings.

House clerks also make a mental note of members who show up for attendance and leave afterwards.

The MP who holds the worst attendance record is Malcolm Adderley. The PLP MP missed 14 of the 43 House sittings --29 percent of the sittings. St. Cecelia MP and deputy PLP leader, Cynthia

"Mother" Pratt had the second worst attendance record - missing 13 (27 percent) of House sittings.

Cat Island MP, Philip "Brave" Davis followed closely behind Pratt with 12 absences. He tied with Fort Charlotte MP and former attorney general, Alfred Sears who also missed 12 sittings.

Golden Gates MP, Shane Gibson missed 10 sessions.

Kennedy MP, Kenyatta Gibson, who left the PLP earlier this year and went independent, missed nine sessions.

PLP MP for St. Thomas More, Frank Smith had seven absences.

PLP MP for MICAL, V. Alfred Gray had six absences.

South Andros MP, Picewell Forbes had five absences. He tied with Fox Hill MP, Fred Mitchell who also had five absences.

Former prime minister and PLP leader, Perry Christie tied West End and Bimini MP, Obie Wilchcombe with three absences.

North Andros and Berry Islands MP, Vincent Peet had a near perfect attendance record with one only absence. He tied with former House speaker, James Oswald Ingraham and Yamacraw MP, Melanie Griffin, who also only missed one session.

Eight Mile Rock MP, Verna Grant had two absences.

Bain & Grants Town MP, Dr. Bernard Nottage and Englerston MP, Glenys Hanna-Martin were the only two PLP MPs with perfect attendance records.

On the Free National Movement side, the nation's chief, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham had a perfect attendance record. He tied with Mt. Moriah MP, Tommy Turnquest, who also had a perfect attendance record.

Killarney MP, Dr. Hubert Minnis had a near-perfect attendance record, missing only one House session. He tied with High Rock MP, Kenneth Russell, Clifton MP, Kendal Wright, Pineridge MP and deputy speaker, Kwasi Thompson and Golden Isles MP, Charles Maynard who all missed just one session.

Deputy Prime Minister and St. Anne's MP, Brent Symonette missed two House sessions. He tied with Blue Hills MP, Sidney Collie and Garden Hills MP, Brensil Rolle, who all had two absences.

Sea Breeze MP, Carl Bethel had three absences. He tied with Marathon MP, Dr. Earl Deveaux and Long and Ragged Island MP, Larry Cartwright, South Abaco MP, Edison Key and South Beach MP, Phenton Neymour, who missed three sessions back-to-back.

Marco City MP, Zhivargo Laing missed four house sittings. He tied with Carmichael MP, Desmond Bannister and Pinewood MP, Byran Woodside who also had four absences.

Bamboo Town MP, Branville McCartney missed five sessions. He tied with Montagu MP, Loretta Butler-Turner who also missed five sessions back-to-back.

Lucaya MP, Neko Grant had six absences.

Exuma MP, Anthony Moss had the worst attendance record for the Free National Movement - missing eight House sessions.

House Speaker Alvin Smith also had a perfect attendance record.

According to House clerk, David Forbes, the Speaker of the House "is always there and always has a perfect record, unless he or she is ill or on official duty."

The Nassau Guardian attempted to contact Shane Gibson, Glenys Hanna-Martin, Perry Christie and Bernard Nottage for comment but was unsuccessful.

Kudos to the Guardian and the writer of this story. We need more articles like this to increase the accountability of our elected officials.

Sad to see my MP LBT has missed 5 sessions.

To add fairness to the equation, any Minister who was absent because they were out performing official duties should have been mentioned in that article.

I remember Brent being absent two weeks ago because he was out of the country on official business. The P.M was also out of the country at one time when the House met.

But they need to start cutting salary, das what they do with civil servants when they have used all their vacation and skip work. These M.P's already have too much vacation.

Ya gatte forgive MALCOM, he was hiding out a bit, especially when the had the vote of no confidence in the speaker.

Journalists in this country do a disservice to their profession. Poorly researched with no effort to edit their articles for accuracy. It is obviously a reflection of poor pay in the profession, because the standards in the local press seem to be very low. How can we blame the man and woman on the street for being ignorant to the issues that affect and impact us, when those who should be well versed in this country's affairs are themselves ignorant.

The PLP have not gotten over the fact that they have lost the election. Remember after the 1992 election Pindling hardly attended!

Yeah but what do we have to compare this record with???

It doesn't make any sense to me without something to compare it with!!

They should have done their research and compare these numbers with the first year of the PLP's last term in office (2002-3) as the govt and the FNM as the official opposition. Otherwise these are just figures and therefore they have no meaning!!!
