I am bahamian, my wife is from the US. I have been away from home for a number of years, however, I plan on moving back home in August with my family. I plan on living intially in SandyPort, which will be good for my wife and kids because there are many young families there.

Cansfins --- From the map, Sandy Port is right down from Cable Beach. Nice is it? GenX, who has given me alot of good info. recommended Cable Beach Not that I want to live with only expats, but where do the majority live? I will be working near Garden Hills

Thank you

looks like you havent lived anywhere else besides this little ghetto city.

This "little ghetto city" does not have a monopoly on crime. Instead of talking bad about it all the time, why don't you try to make some positive changes in some way.

Expats live not in a confined area, many in Cable Beach, Coral Harbour or where ever their spouses decide they wish to have them live. Many on out-islands.

Do not count on any expat support here.

The ones I have met are into booze, drugs, partying, nudity, sweet-hearting and generally a mess up.

Most I have met over my years are now divorced and went back home.

I have kept away from them as far as possible, thats why I am still married and out of trouble and plan to keep it that way until I get cremated and my ashes put to sea.

You and me both :)

When I first came out here and lived in Nassau I tried the expat scene for a while but found it so false and unreal. Why move to another country if you are not prepared to join in with local life and meet local folks? It made absolutely no sense to me at all. I guess that's why out of the 40 teachers that came over when I did, I'm the only one still here.

Ann, you and I have become Bahamianized. The rest thought of different agendas.

Not sure of the newbee. Best to keep low and out of sight from them foreigners.

The Bahamas is a tight society, one can get hurt.

I know one family been here long time, thinking that the expat group was gonna help them get residency no matter how much money they threw around and bought drinks.

They still here on work permits, no real status even though they own a little property.

I can get along with about every nationality or race and definitely don't want to hang around expats only. I am hoping for my wife (She is Colombian and speaks English) to meet some other Latin American people. Any in Nassau you know of?

Thanks

The Latin community here is a small but close knit community. There used to be 2 nice Latin hang out around hear but sadly they have closed. We have a local spanish group call Amistad she may be interested in joining that. Also if she likes attending church there are 2 spanish pentecostal congregations here that you can pm me for more info.

We also have a BI member who I think is also Columbian, but she lives in Freeport. Which reminds me we haven't seen Shakita in a little while. You may want to pm her for advice http://bahamasissues.com/member.php?u=4792

I wonder if her husband's work permit was not renewed. I am surprised she did not let us know though...she was a frequent and friendly poster!
