Those of you that know me (Ann) from 6 years back, know it is a struggle.
I agree with the struggle part. Even though I have been here for 25 years I still remember how hard that first couple of years were - basically until I met Mr. AA. I cried myself to sleep many nights from culture shock and loneliness.

At least he will have his wife with him. Although I do agree with what Lurker said, it is often very hard for the wives, especially if they are not working. Sadly I have known many turn to drink or a sweetheart and many expat marriages that fall apart from the stress and boredom and the unfulfilled expectations

I never knew it was that bad AA.Having to wait years just to be able to work, dat would drive me more bananas.I wish our immigration department would have clear cut policies, but with immigration it seems as if you get different information from whom ever you speak with.

Also, I'll put in a plug for Amistad, a spanish speaking organization that's quite neat to be a part of --- friendly with quite an interesting set of Bahamians, Latin Americans and generally anyone interested in learning more about 'things spanish'! We meet every 3rd Friday at the College of The Bah. School of Hospitality... for movies, music, and other varied activities :hammer:

There are a good number of Colombians here! You see there is great emphasis being placed on the Spanish language in schools; as such the Govt. recruits native speakers from Spanish speaking countries. I don't think anyone really cares that much... The Bahamas is a melting pot in its own rite...
