We also have a BI member who I think is also Columbian, but she lives in Freeport. Which reminds me we haven't seen Shakita in a little while. You may want to pm her for advice http://bahamasissues.com/member.php?u=4792

I can get along with about every nationality or race and definitely don't want to hang around expats only. I am hoping for my wife (She is Colombian and speaks English) to meet some other Latin American people. Any in Nassau you know of?
Thanks

I am a Colombian Expat living in Freeport but I do know some playgroups and meet groups in Nassau for newbies. PM me and we will chat.

I have some information regarding rent and activities, I was supposed to move to Nassau a couple of months ago but I convinced my husband to stay in Freeport, I love it here. I was moving to a community called Nautica. I will PM you my email for further info.

My wife wants to know what the Bahamians will think of her being Colombian? (Since when most people in the world hear "Colombia" , they think drug dealers and prostitution.

Is never been an issue for me here, I was asked if I was from Eleuthera :), I guess I have completely blended in!!!

But really and truly where you come from is not an issue in this country, at least not in Grand Bahama Island.

Hope you're still checking this thread - gated communities in Nassau are growing in number. The primary ones would be Treasure Cove - way out east, but with decent houses that will rent in your price range. Lots of expats as well as locals living there.

Then there is Nautica -fairly new, housing primarily townhouse condos - 2 and 3 story. It is slightly west of Cable Beach.

Further west is Sandyport - lots and lots of expats there, tennis courts, pools, ongoing construction. Units here rent from $2500 and up. Where you choose to be may be partially dependent upon where you will be working.

There are lots of people who live outside gated communities, and these places rent for much less.

Furnished can mean completely furnished. In Treasure Cove and Sandyport a lot of units rent with dishes, cutlery, furnishing, bedding, etc. so you don't have to bring your own.

There are lots of Spanish speaking residents here - lots from South America, and this may help your wife to settle in. In Sandyport there are lots of couples with young children, and there are lots of opportunities to get together with other moms of young children. It can be difficult for expat women who do not work, but this can be the case anywhere you move to. You can make it what you want to.

Good luck!
