Getting back to the thread, I have a question.
1. Is the Government allowed to buy the GBPA?

I just had someone tell me that its in violation of the Hawksbill creek Agreement for them to buy it. I reckon he's wrong.
How could they do it? Just Curious.

Yeah, I've read it on a few occasions, and fail to see where the Gov't can NOT buy it- in fact, clause 1 says it's a 'conditional' lease....

Both PM Ingraham and Christie are lawyers. It's hard to think that the PM would say something without doing a bit of homework as to whether he could actually back up the statement. I haven't read anything to the contrary. Any ideas?, An Independent agency? Nationalisation?

I really do not know too much about it but I caught the tale end of something on the news last night where a lawyer was saying that the government could not buy it, but to be honest I wasn't really paying too much attention :(

I just scanned through it again, and maybe my simple mind didn't see it. I'm really looking forward to someone saying either they can or can't. I guess i need to give Fred Smith a call!! He seems to know a lot about it.:)

If you really were to look at it, Freeport and the GBPA, has been on the downward slope since the late 80's. People have been leaving and losing their position. But, the incentive packages of the 90's and land incentives, just recently, may have given the wrong impression that we approve of the confusion and dysfunctionality in the GBPA- forget about the 7% giveaway, let's talk about the go ahead, to continue business as usual.....

Don't care either which way, but as we can now see, it was a mistake from the UBP in the 40's. A mistake to get huddled up with Hutchinson and the 7% hand wash in the 80's. A mistake to allow them tax breaks in the 90's and a mistake to give them more land incentives, in 2007....

Enough. Clean break and fresh start. This could have been over SOOOOOOOOOOO long ago. I wonder if people Bahamaswide did not stay up on this, how long would this garbage go on in Freeport with the GBPA?!?!?
