IMO, for change to happen in our country, we must start with ourselves.

1. Learn to take responsibility for our own well being and personal development instead of waiting for the government or church to do it for us.

2. Educate and elevate ourselves then help others to do the same.

3. Lead by example.

4. For those of us who are parents, start acting like it. Teach your children to be proud, independent and productive citizens...if you call them dumb stupid and lazy they will likely fulfill this.

5. Participate in your children's education; don't rely soley on someone else to do it for you. Know what is being put in to them so you are not later surprised by what comes out. If we can fill a political rally or concert then why never a PTA meeting?

6. Elect figures of authority that you can respect and teach your children to also respect authority.

7. Most of all be open to change and respectful of new and progressive ideas then see if they meet your own ideal and the ideal of our Nation. Teach your children to be forward thinking and to challenge the status quo when needed.

I realized now that I may have opened up a Pandora’s Box for my assertions of a better future for our Nation. I held little doubt that the daunting task of national building would be an easy one , and now that I have read all of your individual points of views upon this issue; I truly believe that it may be impossible. ..:realmad:

What are the odds of a truly gifted and compassionate leader becoming Prime Minister of the Bahamas or of any Country for that matter……NILL…..EL-ZIPPO…..NADA….NOT HAPPENING at least according to many of your threads.

If this is, indeed, the case; then we as a people have a lot of hard work to do, and I suggest that we move quickly before it is too late for any meaningful good. I don’t believe in giving up…just in giving more..

This is just my take on this issue… feel free to correct me if am wrong.

May I ask the people of my ancestors a few burning questions upon the progress of our Nation. It matters not if I conceptualized a vision for my people for reasons of my byes[ free thinker ], the reality of it all is simply this ; one man make not a Nation. What is indeed necessary for balance, in the drafting of said plan, is in the integration of useful information by variety of sources. This can easily be accomplished if everyone willingly participate, to visualizing a future concept for our Nation and document the results.
If your still with me, here is the burning question; As a Nation…why don't we have, in action, a permanent development plan for our Nations future? We elect officials who, from term to term, waste their term trying to undo their predecessors term/s. The mighty Oak planted yesterday is today uprooted for a Cedar. Was this in the plan or is it the case of new planning...seriously; what was wrong with the old.
Politics plays an integral part in the development of a Nation, however the philosophical politics of division must not play any part in the planning of a mighty and prosperous Nation. We, the people of this great Nation, must make room for the needs of all people especially our own. The debate upon the injustice of humanity must be fought with the same conviction as that upon the lost of the Dollar.
It is hard to criticize the faults of a Nation when it's people are at peace. The justification for contradiction lay heavily upon the balanced nature of your reasoning. To simply kill a person because of their skin, or to elect a person because of their name is an enormous hindrance to the balance of progress. Our plan for the future of this Nation must be given utmost priority by each individual citizen. Care must be placed upon freedom of information and equal opportunities of all, and upon the continual growth of the Nation.
If we are not planning to become a great Nation in the eyes of the world; we seriously need to start making conscious efforts to ensure that greatness is, indeed, the desire of every citizen. After all; a Nation is only a group of people unified toward the establishment of a specific geographical spot on earth to call their home.
What say you on this issue...
Truth above Honor
We need to go back to old fashioned discipline and hardwork. If we set standards then the standards that exist at present will rise. Because we have not set any standard, we have attained none. As a nation we need to start taking accountability for our actions. We also need to bring young persons and old persons and everybody to the table to discuss where our nation should be headed. In our highly polarised society there is a tendency only to hear the majority's voice and to dismiss dissension. We need to bring the dissentients to the table also. As we open the floor up to a societal and national dialogue we have to make sure that tolerance and the widest possible acceptance and airing of everyone's views is done while these talks are taking place. We need to focus on and foster more intellectual exercise by our country. Also, we need more of an emphasis on independent critical thought. We need this from our educational sector, the media, Parliament, the courts, every stakeholder in Bahamian society has to take a skeptical analytical approach so as to plot the way forward for our nation.

Those who represent an ideal beyond the comprehension of the masses must face the persecution of the unthinking multitude who are without that divine idealism which inspires progress and those rational faculties which unerringly sift truth from falsehood..

Thank you for your deep insight...your opinion is duly noted.
